Should I just make a new character?

I bought the game very recently and managed to get to act 5 of the story before the season ended.
Now it seems all my unique and legendaries are completely useless and my character is barely doing any damage and gets killed in a few hits from random mobs.

Should I just suck it up and start a new seasonal for the story mode, was it just bad timing on my part to join right before season ends?

Yea, it was bad timing. Unless you plan to play on eternal, might as well do the seasonal stuff and just restart.

Probably just finish campaign on that charcter in Eternal realm. You are not far from end and if you will start with new char, you will have to go from start. After you finish it, you can skip it with new chars

You only need to finish base campaign now, on a new char you can skip base campaign then and just start with VoH campaign

Bad timing.

The drop to 540 was more of a nerf than I even thought it would be for items. I thought it would reduce the usefulness but leave them with some utility, but nope, and armor in particular got completely gutted.

My legacy items I simply deleted a moment ago, because the armor went from 15,000 (way above, with the Juggernaut ability on one legendary armor adding so much) to 500. That drop is less bad than it sounds, because 500 still gives about 60% reduction, but I went from max reduction to 60% DESPITE having juggernaut on an item.

Yeah, I'm at the same point as OP... kind of thinking just start a new char. The only reason not to is that it at least kept the skill points and has paragon points on it. At least there's that.

Eh, for me this whole game is season. Every few months I roll up a couple new characters, farm out max gear and wait two months for the next season

I guess I will try finish the campaign on my old character, but how do I get my health back? I went from nearly 2000 health to 300....1 shotted by everything now. just get new equipment and not legacy stuff or is the new patch just differently calculated by the new world tiers?

Seasons exists to hide that there is no end game content. Basically they hope you are going to endlessly make new characters. Hamster wheel RPG.
