im still lv45 rocking T4. last season was barely survivable on T4 at lv60.
Get to World Tier 4.
Get your Fractured Winterglass and Esu's Heirloom boots and Tibault's Will pants.
Switch.
You can not easily run a conventional Season 5 Lightning Spear without that Fractured Winterglass with a .2 or.3 Cooldown reduction. (.1 is not enough) But, they are a fairly common drop from Zir and you can easily do the non-Tormented Zir with a Chain Lightning build to get one.
That's what I did and I didn't have any issues. (I did it earlier, but I also added a Tyrael's, which you may not have. But, just progressing to WT4 so you can get some immediate gear upgrades should be fine for you.)
A standard Lightning Spear build as an example: https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides/lightning-spear-sorcerer-guide
PS: Yes, your DPS will go up. But, only if you can keep pumping out Lightning Spears. With the above guide, provided you have the minimum necessary gear to make it work, you can easily outpace your chain-lightning build, especially on single-targets like bosses or Blood Maiden, Pit, NMD, etc.
You're welcome!
As soon as you have the gear necessary to make your chosen Lightning Spear build work, and I don't know of any that don't require a Fractured Winterglass with .2 or better Cooldown, go ahead and convert from Chain Lightning to Lightning Spear - You won't have any issues.
It is a different playstyle, so test it out a bit. You'll be casting Lightning Spear on cooldown and spamming Frozen Orb to proc both cooldown effects as well as additional Lightning Spears, Hydras, etc. Since Lightning Spears hang around for a bit and have a huge range, you'll frequently find yourself standing in an empty screen while your Lightning Spears are off wtfpwn-killing mobs off-screen...
Anyway - Enjoy! It's a fun build.
Like I want to be able to undo and go back to my old one if anything happens or it perform worse cause I find out I am missing someting at the end that I did not predict before.
You know, there is always something you can not think about before you tried it.
Wish me luck and good loot to you sir.
Was a very fun journey to 100 and beyond.
But
I am going to level up now a rouge. For me the most fun part is the leveling and geting the gear together. After that its just min maxing and I hate needing to get to discord for a group to farm Mistiques. I would rather just farm them alone but I have not tried yet. I have like 50 of those mats to summon them though so no biggy.
For my rogue I saw that Penetration Shot is a good leveling build but still checking whats the current meta for season5 later on or whats best to focus on early on. Tips here are appreatiated.
Haven't bothered with meta on my Rogue yet, but I am playing a mix of Barrage + Rain of Arrows + Arrowstorms (just as I got the uniques for it, wanted to go Frenzy Flurry [edit] initially), and I am having alot of fun, the Rain of Arrows (with unique amulet) plus Arrowstorms cover the screen, while I dodge around and shotgun anything surviving that.
And that is the thing, there is absolutely no reason to check the meta when starting a new char. Any coherent build with a minimum of synergies can get to lvl 100 (some faster, some slower), so for me personally, it is always about trying out something new, a build I "created" myself, and see how far I can get. And if I hit the wall in endgame, and cannot get through on myself, I lastly check the meta to see what I could do better. Or I start a new char.
