Gold is still useless

Why are the purchase options for gear that require gold still so bad? It would be nice if there was 1 good thing we could spend gold on, but I've yet to find that if it even exists. The only useful thing is just repairing gear if you die. At least in games like ESO you can use gold to buy properties, mounts, etc. Am I missing something?

All of the end game gear upgrades have a cost, gold is required.

Gold is needed for the end game. You'll see when you get there.

I honestly don't remember needing a lot of gold end game, have played through the campaign a couple times. Unless this is a new thing with this season I'm not really sure. This is only helping my point though that it's easy to have more gold than to know what to do with

Finishing the campaign doesn't equate to end game.

Masterworking endlessly, trading for 4 greater affix (mythical) uniques.

Finishing campaign equals starting the end game.
After you've finished it once, most peeps start a new season by skipping the campaign.

This is the end game:
Complete the pit, unlock all difficulties, max rank your glyphs, kill all the tormented echo bosses, farm your ancestral max greater affix legendaries, uniques and mythical uniques.

Seasonal:
Complete season chest rewards and season journey.

It costs 10M to make one grand jewel. Doing lots of masterworking will take away tons of mats and gold.

Gold is useful, it's just not useful at the always-useless merchants.

Blizzard has bots spamming links in trade chat every minute or two. You go to one of those links and spend your gold to buy endgame gear.
