Wipes
I never really gotten into Diablo and probably won't, but I heard this game has wipes, which I like.

I am a huge fan of The Division 2 and the devs were going to bring in regular seasonal wipes, but ended up not because of the backlash.

My question is, how does this community overall feel about wipes? Does it make the game feel fresh every wipe or is it just annoying? How do you think this game would feel if there weren't wipes with each season?

EDIT: I may have to dive into this game just for the mere fact his game has seasonal wipes IMO.

Seasons are separate, there isn't a true "wipe" as your seasonal character get's transferred to the "eternal realm" and you have permanent access to them. To play in the season, the seasonal character is new for every season.

The game does not hard wipe like the way EFT does for example, you still keep the character, gear and money etc only your character is transferred to the eternal realm, nothing the character its self or any of the gear you have from the previous season cannot be carried over to the new season, every season you just start a new character.

What is carried over are some paragon points and you don't have to run around the map unlocking alter of Lilith's again.

I enjoy seasons to be honest, some people play multiple characters per season but I just stick with one but create a different class and build each season.
See, I can't stand wipes or FOMO in general, so I play exclusively on the Eternal Realm. Two days ago I got my Eternal Rogue to Lv60, meaning all my characters are at the level cap and any further XP will contribute to Paragon, and yesterday I completed the Khazra Citadel (the game's endgame raid) for the first time as a Conjuration Sorcerer. However, if you see wipes as a positive, Diablo 4's Seasonal gameplay is probably perfect for you; new character every season, but you can still continue playing your old character on Eternal.

Diablo 3 uses basically the same system and still has an active playerbase, so that might be cheaper to get into that first.

There is no wipe in diablo4. Characters do not get deleted.

Each season (every 3 months) it will introduce new class change, dungeon system and gears. The doors are opened to new characters only. Old characters will be transferred to a default world setting (aka Eternal Realm).

You can still enjoy your old characters if you miss them, or aim to be the ultimate eternal realm build. But it won't be as strong as the new season character as the new system usually offer stronger gear.
yup this.. I've only had one character which is on eternal since im not one of those into creating 10 other characters all the time. With the expansion came mercs and additional stuff along some game changes, i kind of percieved that so eternal does get some new stuff at the end and with each coming expansion

When season ends, everything transfers to eternal, has been like that since diablo 2.
There are no wipes compared to games where you lose basically everything and start from 0.
Though you can play it sort of like with wipes by deleting your characters and stash after season ends, though that equals to not ever using eternal, until you run out of character slots. Though you still keep some of the account wide map progress from season to season.

Though you have also hardcore, so you wipe yourself whenever you die, though paragon stays (but only usable when you get back to 60).

This is what The Division 2 was going to have.

Game was going to get seasonal characters, at the end of the season all of our XP would transfer to our main character and we were also going to have the ability to transfer any gear we collected throughout the season to our main as well.

Too add, each season was going to have a "two week intermission" where players could go into the seasonal stuff on our main characters.

Really sucks this idea got cancelled, because I really enjoy the concept of going into new seasons on a fresh character. Real bummer.

from the looks of Diablo player count, the idea of seasonal characters in this game seems to have become better received compared to when the idea was first announced. Wish Ubisoft stuck to their guns like how the devs did with this game.

Does Diablo have the option to play on each season on your main character as well as a seasonal character if desired?

I personally really like the concept of going into each season on a new character.

The big update for The Division 2 was supposed to bring in seasonal characters, but got cancelled from the complaining.

Going into the new season on my main character in The Division 2 just doesn't really have a fun nor engaging experience because I can on day 1 start plowing through the seasonal content instead of having to gradually loot/gather gear as well as level up my character.

Ulitimalty, the fact this game has a seasonal character model got my interest.

No. Once a character enters the Eternal Realm (either by the Season ending, or by being created in Eternal to begin with), they're stuck there permanently. I'm totally fine with that; missing out on a few Seasonal mechanics is well worth being able to play at my own pace.
