It has become a bit more I think, with the addition of "endgame" boss encounters, mainly Duriel, you can farm for uber-uniques.
Some part of the seasons might be added later on to the ER, like new aspects and uniques, but story-wise there is nothing really there.

The thing is, D4 is not really a game suited for endgame play, or at least not developed as such, but assumes the player to go for a new character now and then, and they rather spice up the whole lvl1-100 range rather than care about what happens once you reached 100.
Not saying that there is no endgame, but it's clearly lackluster, and not really a focus. That is, if you say endgame is "maxlevel", for me, I think "endgame" in D4 starts around lvl50, when you finished your skilltree and start with Paragon.

You literally described why you should try out Seasonal Realm in Season 4. Don't go back to Eternal, you will just be bored again in a couple hours.

There's a lot of stuff you haven't experienced yet if you never played Season 2 content (boss ladder, an expanded boss ladder, The Pit, new Helltide), all of it you can conquer by starting fresh and building up your character's power until you actually can take on the challenges and defeat them.

"Endgame" begins when you enter World Tier 4. Although some people would say as soon as you enter World Tier 3.

You'll have fun, give it a go after May 14th (Season 4 Launch date).

I was a little disappointed looking back at the two campfire streams for Season 4 because they didn't say they were keeping anything from Season 3 into the main game yet. I thought Malphas was a pretty interesting boss fight when you have to do mechanics and don't one-shot him with a broken build, I hope they add him to the boss ladder in a future mid-season update.

Malphas will probably be back when they have another lesser evil on the level of Duriel/Andariel, together with another boss it could become a third pillar of the boss ladder.

It's gone for now, but probably not forever.

The things they keep from a past season were only added and announced in the middle of the next one.
