As to why you would want to play after Season 4 update goes live? Plenty of reasons, the game is undergoing massive changes.
As a teaser that's by no means exhaustive (patch notes for Season 4 are 10000 words) you could check out this blog post to see some of the highlights of what's coming.
https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/diablo4/24077223/galvanize-your-legend-in-season-4-loot-reborn#Itemization
As Dravic sayed, if you aware, season 4 will not own a "dedicated themed season" S4 of diablo 4 is just a big QOL patch with 2/3 themed quest line, but she doesn't get powered stuff as season 2 and 3
- A patch who in a certain ways, will give diablo 4, a diablo 3 mood about progression feel, but, it s keep diablo 4 vibes.
Iv e start fresh for testing the patch on ptr without speaking pnj to get level 100.
Then, it s now possible to beat 1st boss on tier 2 with yellow stuff only. Over all, they just make the game more balanced than never before specially about armor pts, who was a real probleme about the cap. Always needed to sacrifice dammage pts to get more armor pts, to survive T difficulty boss pass
Then i will not resume all the change, but in a way, they kicked off all boring thing about progression systeme, they packed all into something very optimized to let the player have more playing time than check inventory/craft time.
Iv e level up a 84 barbare on ptr, it took me around 25hours full solo without specially rushing
Then, i think level 100 goal is possible in 30 hours maybe less for experimented player. Time to level up 100 have be divided by 2. it s due you get more powerfull faster with the new loot/craft systeme/codex, less time in the hub, more time in infernal waves/dungeon, better loot stat, more faster full fill exp bar.
So yes, it s worth to restart, the game is 2time less boring than before, crafting is 95% targetable, and now, the stuff you loot is more efficient, the caractere progression is more powerfull, you can feel the difference, thing player doesn't feel before and actually (don t count robot)
This patch give you all the key to roll on the game, a patch who should have be released 9 month ago to keep the high player base.
Content is a thing, the way a game invite you to play is another thing, and of course, the patch of these features will applied on eternal realm, so your will be able to continue your caractere progression with new stuff without restarting a new seasonal caractere
I may create character in S4 and play a bit to keep S4 data in my account.
I still don't understand how the retired server (eternal server) works.
When you strart a character in Season, you will have additional seasonal story line and mechanics that will not show up on Eternal. When the Season ends, the seasonal character gets transferred to the Eternal Realm with everything, except seasonal stuff which will be gone, but all his equip, achievements and progress will be there. You can still play the character like normal. A new Season will always have you make a new character (and reason is well explained by ImpactHound) if you want to participate in it.
As for me, alot of the enjoyment with this game comes from trying out new classes/builds, and thus I am fine with starting over now and then anyway. For me, lvl100 "endgame" is of little interest, it's getting there with a new build that's most of the fun. And of course NOT just following meta builds.
BTW. what the heck does "Lv3 sourceless" mean?!? You meant a Tier (World Level) 3 Sourcerer?
I hope they bring in pets (passive or active) one day. I want my cow pet from D3 back.
