Support for Battle.Net Owners?
Just curious if there is any planned integration for people who already bought a copy on Battle.net (I will of course not be buying a second copy of the game just to play it on steamdeck without a work around). Would just like to do updates through steam and maybe the achievements etc. Would be more than happy to pick up new DLC but can't justify it until I have access to the main game here.

I'm sure that the answer is the new Blizzard normal of looking for more money, but I am hoping the soul of the old Blizzard, which cared about players, still exists somewhere in that corrupted corporate heart. Probably just play some POE in the mean time.

Question for those who did purchase through steam. When you log into your Battle.net account can you access the game download there? That is, can you download the Battle.net launcher and play the game independently from the Steam launcher like you would for say D2?

^-- This.

I don't know that something like GamePassUber++++ exists for every game... across all platforms, ever.

I think a SteamID can be linked to a Battlenet account, though. But, I doubt Steam Achievement tracking will work with non-Steam games and Steam is also not required to feed patches to non-Steam game installs.

Blizzard fired everyone with a soul soon after they started making money off of WoW. They then hired an exorcist to expunge any lingering soul within the headquarters. They would prefer if you bought the game twice. If they legally could hire people to take the ones you care about for ransom until you bought more copies I wouldn't put it past them.

1) No, buying the game on Steam doesn't grant you Battle.net copy, nor does the opposite, yet all DLC, Expansions and MTX purchase are universal and accessible on any platform, so you won't have to buy every DLC twice, only the base game need to be bought twice, and it's actually not the worst implementation, SnowRunner from AA publisher "Focus Entertainment" actually forced me to buy the game and all its DLC twice!

2) If you only want to own a 2nd copy of D4 on Steam just to be able to play it on Steam Deck, then you don't actually need to buy it 2nd time, there's a guides how to run Battle.net copy on Steam Deck, google it.

I mean I didn't really think that they would let us use the key from one to the other, but it would have been nice. Especially when so many people pre-ordered the game, like myself, believing it wasn't coming to Steam. Only to see that happen in the future. I would have simply waited, or pre-ordered it, on Steam if they had been transparent about using this platform. Funny that the DLC is universal but not the main game.

These days you have to have to hose consumers where ever you can though right? In Canada there was even a class action lawsuit because grocery stores were price fixing bread.

Actually have been running it on Steam deck almost as long as the guides have been out to do it. Runs really smoothly, but there are some cumbersome spots when launching it, or trying to update the game files. And yeah, no steam achievements of course. Really just QOL things that I would like to have to make things a little smoother on my end.

Not informing you about future platform releases is a business tactic that can only result in them getting double purchases from customers. It is lame, but considering Blizzard's integrity over the last decade it should be expected.

I also pre-ordered D4 on Bnet, and I don't think they could be transparent about coming to Steam, because it was mostly Microsoft decision to transfer all Blizzard games to Steam, Blizzard was pretty much okay with D4 sales on Bnet alone, yet Microsoft was not happy, they noticed that all Blizzard games doesn't show any growth numbers over last 10 years, meaning that D4 had sold the same amount of copies that D3 have, and for a large corporation such as Microsoft no growth = no good, so that's why they forced Blizzard to release all their game on Steam.

And by the time D4 came out, Microsoft had not yet acquired Activision-Blizzard (blame anti-monopoly committee for the delaying...). I too was hoping that the deal would be completed before D4 release date and thus we would had more chances of D4 coming to Steam at the same time as it was released on Bnet, but it didn't happened in time, so yeah, I pretty much had to buy the game twice, yet I'm not angry, my Bnet copy is actually has advantage over Steam copy, for example I have access to PTR server, I can change language in any combination I want, while on Steam it's not possible, same way was with HD-textures, you couldn't opt-out of it on Steam for quite some time.

You missed that Blizzard never had any intentions of releasing D4 on Steam, it was solely Microsoft doing, due to their shareholders wanting all money in the world...

Even if it means that they now lose 20% on every MTX sale and in next 10 years, they probably lose more money on that Steam tax alone then if they chose to never release on Steam, IMO. But what's done is done, who knows maybe Steam will actually lover its tax to 12% someday...

Oh, I guess I was thinking of when kotick went into hiding and M$ fired 2000 redundant Blizzard employees that were only acting as tax write-offs for the company. Didn't realize things started moving months after M$ took over.

I bet they were staring at their data sheets for 2 months thinking "Wtf is going on over there at Blizzard HQ? This can't be accurate." Lol.

It's too bad M$ doesn't work as fast as elon musk. When that guy bought Twitter he axed all the bloat in a week.

*On a side note I saw the $49.99 and laughed in real life. This company has become so narcissistic. It's crazy the price is still that high after holding hour long streams talking about how they need to fix literally everything in the game.

Steam won't allow you to purchase DLC without owning the game first, and even if you somehow manage to do that, it won't register to your account unless you actually install and run the Steam copy of the game!
