If i buy a steam copy do i have to use a different battle.net account for me to have 2 copies of the game if i own on their already?
I own this game on battle net and id rather play on steam so i figure if it goes on sale again ill buy for myself on steam and let friend use my battle net account. Is that doable without me making another battle net account? or am i forced to link them to eachother or can i do that and have him play on account at same time as me on steam

If you buy the game on Steam, you have to link it to a Bnet account.
You can either use your existing account, or a new one.
If you use your existing account, you will share progress of that account on all versions connected, but only one can be active at a time.
If you make a new Bnet account, you can start the game via Steam, and give that old Bnet account to a friend, and he can play there, and you can play together.

Not gonna argue if giving away accounts is ever a good idea, but that's the way it goes.

You must link to "a" Battle.net account. That could be a new one but you will lose any progress made on your battle.net account.

The steam version of Diablo 4 requires you to link to a battle.net account and be logged into that account. You cannot have multiple people logged in and playing at the same time. Your friend would need his own account and have purchased Diablo 4 directly from bnet or from steam. Even if you yourself have purchased D4 twice on bnet and steam (like i have) it is still tied to your battle.net account and is not sharable.

I think is counter rules share account to other. With free too.

If you own the DLC on Bnet, but only the Standard version on Steam, when linking your account, would the DLC from the Bnet be playable on the Standard version on Steam?

This worked with Ubisoft and EA games.

This is why needing an extra account to play a game besides your Steam account is lame. Which is why I am avoiding every game that requires another account to work.

Tired of these games forcing people to make an account just to play something they bought. If it's on Steam, your Steam account should be the only account you need. If not, I have no problem not buying these overpriced/cash grabby games.

I don't htink that would make sense, the new account would only have the Steam license, no original Bnet license, so it could only be played on Steam. But without owning the game on the linked Steam account, not possible.
And not sure about unlinking and relinking Bnet to Steam in general.

So if you want to get another account for someone else, just gift them the game to their Steam account, or gift it on Bnet?

And if you just think you can "recompensate" for buying the game again on Steam to play through Steam, well... not gonna happen. You pay for the platform license.
