Diablo 1 and 3 before 4?

Hi Guys,

I played Diablo 3 (D3) ages ago and lost track and somewhat forgotten the story as it has been many years now since last played D3

Do you need to play D3 again or is there a recap of the game before starting D4? Or shall I watch Youtube videos of D3 to remind me before D4?

You dont need to play D3 again. D4 is actually very similar to D2.
Maybe watch just the entire timeline of diablo to understand the story of diablo 4 better.

I would recommend actually playing Diablo 1 and especially Diablo 2. Diablo 2 is still the best game in the franchise in my opinion and got a stellar remaster a few years ago.

Now diablo 1 is useless.
Diablo 2 is an old good game. The issue is that is was good in past standard while being a great iteration of something new.
Nowaday it is painful and boring as hell (unless you are a kind of autistic famer and looping the same loop ad-nauseum). People are irrational with nostalgia with this one ...

I played diablo 1 when it came out, it was more or less meh, something new was born anyway yet very fun.
I played the 2 countless hours and litteraly fell in love of it (bought it 3 times in CD version (because lost of key) and twice full digital).
Diablo 3 was and is still atrocious.
Diablo 4 is neither 2 nor 3. It is a 3 enhanced.
Diablo 2 has no successor to date, and it deserve a good RIP after its glorious success (just be happy to have known it and be part of history.)

I'm able to think about these games without being blurred by blended memories between games and the smooth and reliefing smell of my mother's milk. Got it ?

I agree with you 100%. I have definitely put more time into Diablo 2 Resurrected than I have Diablo 4 even though D4 is a great game.

Diablo 3 for ARPG players, Diablo 4 for MMO/MMORPG players imho.

Diablo 1 and 2 were made by the real Blizzard and got little to do with D3 and D4. D1 is very barebones and rather feels like a roguelike in real time. Funny things is, that what D1 is. Diablo was inspired by top down view turn based games, but the game was rewritten into real time arpg by game devs in secret. D1 later inspired other RT and ARPGs in late 90s and early 00s. Due to D1 success and the rising trend, Blizzard gave the green light for a larger project Diablo game, so D2 was made, much more complex and far more end game content. Then Blizzard was closed down in 2005 and and a corporate incarnate that was also named Blizzard, took over every franchise and all they done is cashgrabs. Blizzard is dead and gone. D2R is a gift, so we get to enjoy D2 still, but that's it. D3 is a failure, whilst D4 is a cashgrab generic arpg. If you want to play good ARPGs there are better options. D1 and D2R are a good place to start, but then move away from "Blizzard" and play other ARPGs.
