sigh i was hoping to keep it simple, they should offer it for "free" on the store page and just require a sign in after download

I sympathize, but sorry, that's not going to happen. This has been brought up a number of times in this forum, but the bottom line is unless Valve provides a service to get duplicate games on Steam (much like GoG did with GoG connect), Blizzard (or EA, Ubisoft, Epic etc) is under no obligation to provide you with a steam key for your non-steam copy. :47_thumb_up:

Wish i knew sooner, i would have waited to get the Steam version, cause i dont really hang out on Bnet anymore.

I went ahead and bought it anyway. I cant stand Bnet in these days.

It's not a free to play game.
Every single game you have to buy in the first place, you have to buy it again on another store platform.
And ubisoft/ea games are not an exception, even if you buy them on steam, you can't play them on those platforms without having access to the steam account with what you linked the purchase to those platforms. Both platform apps will be running then, if the non steam variation is needed. And those games will be listed separately and miss some features that the ubisoft one has in terms of game properties in the store app.

There have been very few exceptions where devs give out keys for multiple platforms with one purchase, unless you only know about kickstarters and patreon stuff, where they give out keys for multiple platforms, though normally even they only let you select one platform.

Warning though.
The steam version has only 1 install size, the full 85GB, on bnet app you can choose to make it 40-50GB smaller.
No idea why the devs didn't bother to make that highest texture quality as a dlc, like some other games have done it.

You are wrong about Ubisoft games, if you purchase them on Epic Games Store you actually get two independent copies, one full copy for EGS and one full copy for Ubisoft Connect, but if you purchase the same game on Steam, you'll get only one full Steam copy and fake Ubisoft Connect copy.

Warning though.

You have an outdated information, because they actually added a DLC with high-res assets, but it wasn't present at the launch. Yet Steam version doesn't allow you to have more than one voice-over installed at a time, while Bnet version does allow you to have as many voice-overs installed as you want, and you can even switch between them without restarting Diablo 4 which is not possible with Steam version for some strange reason... =/

Lol, Bnet app is not really that bad in terms of running and launching games especially compared to Epic, EA and even the Steam app. Regardless welcome to the "steam club". :47_thumb_up:

You can remove the high res textures in Steam by going through the properties and removing the extra 46GB textures under the DLC option. It's a pain that you need to download it all first though.

you don't have to download it first, you can unselect the dlc before installing

Wasn’t there when I installed it the first time.

Because they added high-res DLC just recently, before you couldn't opt-out of high-res assets not before the install, not after!
