Is the battle.net client required? Or do I only need a BNet account?

I own the game on Battle.net and have put around 700 hours into it, and I still enjoy it. It is however the only Blizzard game I play and the only game I need the BNet launcher for. I also use Playnite for tracking my D4 playtime because the game itself doesn't offer that.

I've been thinking about picking up the standard version here on Steam while it's on sale. It seems a bit silly to buy the same game twice, but if I could ditch the battle.net client and Playnite, that'd probably be worth it to me.

How does the BNet integration work with the Steam version? Do I only need a BNet account or does it start up the full BNet launcher whenever the game is launched? (Like the Ubisoft thing, which annoyingly also doesn't auto-close.)

I found the answer here: The launcher is not needed for the Steam version of the game or used by it. Only a BNet account is needed.
