Is there a way to not install the high res assets with the steam version
Primairly for use on Steam Deck
Via battlenet it looks like you can choose to not install this extra data.

Anyone know if there is a way to do that via steam as well?

You can remove the High Resolution Assets by going to the library, selecting Diablo 4, scroll down to see "Manage My DLCs", click it, then deselecting the Assets.

Thanks for the reply.
Lucky i upgraded my internal storage then!

Hopefully they add this for the steam version at some point.
Other games do it as a bit of DLC you can choose to include.

yeah 90 GB is a lot of space at the moment, hopefully they can cut it down at least for the free weekend version - how much of the game are we likely to see (or files needed) for a time limited version.

I just reinstalled my Bnet copy and noticed that I'm no longer able to opt out from downloading High-Resolution Assets, there's no such checkbox anymore - https://imgur.com/a/reNm5Kt

You didn't had to necro this old thread, obviously it is fixed by now, but in 2023 there was no such DLC, people are not that stupid, you know. Mods can close this thread now.
I dunno it's 2025 now and I needed this thread ya silly goose

Me too. Didn't know you can remove the high resolution stuff.
You can and you always could. Literally a day 1 feature on Steam.

that's great, now *what if you didn't know that* and someone was searching for some help about that and they came across this thread and it helped them

what a shame that it's helpful information for people that didn't know
The best necro thread ever :lunar2019piginablanket:

What's the size of the game without the "55Gb" assets? My client is 65Gb currently without it.
