I'll say 6.12.23
already bought Diablo 2 a few times
I have bought D2 a countless number of times... So very many Diablo "Battlechests." AFAIK, one can still buy the Diablo Battlechest at retail stores like Best Buy and Wallmart in the US.

I bought so many because the CD would wear out for Diablo, IIRC... That was up until the 'No CD" patch. I still picked up one, here and there, as the years went by and I lost/broked previous copies.
D2:R is great and worth a buy.
(For that matter, so is D3 now. But, people have polarized opinions on that.)
If Blizz lists Diablo 2 on Steam, be prepared for them to do it at full price and the backlash about that may be legendary if the forums are filled with fans who demand top-notch modern 3D VR Star-Trek Holo-Suite simulation quality for every darn game, regardless of gameplay value. D2's gameplay is tight and it's one of, if not "the," best ARPG games ever made. But, that forum will still be filled with complaints about graphics... :/
PS: I think D1 is free through Blizzard, now. It was at one time, that much I know. It is not "abandonware," however. It was just "released to the public" by Blizz at one point.
still not D2 on Steam
