People have their preferences. Clearly graphics make the game for you, this is your game then for sure. Its true they ruin it all zooming in too far.
Eventually you clear the campaign and get to experience one of the dullest ARPG games out there. Then games like POE start to look good.
It's the zoom level for me, that alone makes D4 the worst in its genre ever since Diablo 1 launched. You'd think that at least by making the screen comically small they'd have good graphics since there is so little for the machine to draw but it still looks worse than an open-world game from the same year, same price, that can draw literally kilometets-worth of dense, living city-scape while at the same time running laps around D4 in fidelity and visual appeal.
This game truly is Diablo 3-and-half. Yet another astounding let down by Blizzard.
There are a million games out there that, graphically, make Diablo 4 look bad.
The worst thing about Diablo 4, is the zoomed in view, though. It kills the ability to view the environment, so regardless of how well it's rendered you only see a small part of it, as you mention.
I was going to try a reshade, but wasn't sure if that would get picked up as an exploit and result in a ban. I was able to add some contrast and bump up the shadows a bit (edit to add: with the GeForce overlay tools), while adding some sharpening, but still looks pretty washed out. Pretty annoying actually with how easy it is to miss containers.
Graphic quality compares to Divine Divinity 2 and other games of that era, so pretty disappointing. I'm not big graphics guy, but I think I got a better gameplay out of Grim Dawn for a less with better graphics (and that one you can mod away at it for the SP campaign so no restrictions there).
The zoom level is pretty ridiculous as well, but holy heck is everything pretty monochomatic. Even the colour palettes on the costumes are dull.
D4 is a hybrid MMO/Mp-ARPG in a dark, dystopic fantasy, setting. It's not a "beauty-shot, SP, story-based QTE/ARPG" within an inorganic flat-world. Spiderman HAS to have those big screenshot moments to sell it. It's a godray-sales marketed game that's got a Marvel label on it with a hit movie IP to fill in the blanks if a tree looks anemic.
D4's draw/scrrenspace make sense. Why? It's got to load everything seamlessly, so that could be fifty-eleven different transmogs fed by xx number of players at the same time, plus the spell effects, plus whoever or whatever walks by, dynamics, tracking damage/effects real-time from everything in the cell, and keep all that stuff updated constantly so it all doesn't fall apart "live" in the middle of a fight. Oh, and all in an online unified platform environment, too, ya know.
I'm no apologist for Blizz/D4. It still chokes, has cell update issues, a gameloop that is horribly designed for a Diablo product, crap-all itemization, copy/pasted animations, limited dynamic game content, and ridiculous supporting architecture that NEEDLESSLY forces the developers to compromise other features.
Why not complain about meaningful things instead of nonsense? Too hard?
Some of the things people complain about due to just willful ignorance is plain getting out of hand. There are legitimate beefs with this game, but they do not include "zoom" level, graphics, or the lack of HDRI color-popping anime ribbons.
PS: Better watch out, though - That vid almost had seven enemies on the screen at once! Whew, close call!
We can add "no off-line mode" (and therefore no modding) to the list of reasons why D4 is one of the worst games in the genre - the genre its franchise pioneered too, which is so very sad.
My favorite game of all time, I'm a thousand hours in and added a couple more to it today even
I wonder who's coping harder that their tanked garbage corporate scam is GOTY right now: Diablo 3.5/10 dummies or Starfailed dummies?
