so how do we convert our blizzard copy to Steam?
I don't use Blizzard's launcher except for D4. I assume existing D4 owners get the Steam version for free.

You probably can't. They want that extra $70.

We are talking about blizzard, of course you will have to buy it again.

So no battle.net launcher required after "connect Diablo IV to a Battle.net account"?
Morgana Oct 5, 2023 @ 7:22am

You have to buy the game a second time if you want to play on Steam :

"Those wanting to play on Steam will need to first purchase the game on that platform, then connect Diablo IV to a B net account (as we require for all platforms). This enables cross-platform play and more."

Does anyone actually know what connecting means in this context and can i play without mallware programns?

connecting just means associating your steam account to your battle.net account for crossplay purposes.
For your malware question, I have my battle.net account associated to my steam account without any malware issues.

Prolly the same way as "connecting" works with Ubisoft - it just runs Uplay on the background.

And you already have Steam installed, so one more malware wouldn't hurt.

My guess is that they treat Steam like a Playstation account. So you link it to your Battle.net account and it is shared progression.
Well, I have no PS account but I imagine that it works that way
Nah, they don't owe Steam users anything, just play it on Blizz or rebuy on here. lol

Well yes but what about existing owners of D4? Those patch notes must mean people that don't own the game yet.

They can give any excuse they want, but it still makes no sense.

I'm not happy that I had to buy the same game twice, but in their defense I can say that it would be hard to prevent people from abusing the system (if they did give a free Steam copy to all Bnet D4 owners). Even if they would used OAuth to add the game to your Steam library without giving you a key that you could sell, some people would still be able to make two independent game copies out of one single purchase - You buy the game on Bnet, then you link Steam account to the Bnet account that has D4, you add the game to Steam for free, then you unlink Steam account from your Bnet account, and you make new Bnet account that doesn't have D4, and you link it to Steam account with added D4 copy and that's it! Now both players can play using different Bnet accounts (one will be playing via Bnet, other will be playing via Steam linked to a different Bnet account), but only one of them paid for the game, so you kinda see the problem now?

What if you have an option, where Blizzard migrates your license to Steam, and removes D4 from Bnet as if you have never purchased it, but keeps your progress? It should be possible to have progress without owning the game, it happens e.g. if you purchase a game again after a refund. This feature could be accessible either through Support, or the Battle.NET launcher could offer it.

I would love to have the game in Steam, but I won't buy it again. It would be really nice from Blizzard, if they could implement this feature.

The only issue you had to deal is, if someone else plays with the original Bnet D4 installation offline, but fortunately the game is not playable that way:)

I would say it's only possible if they actually gonna discontinue Bnet, like it happened to Bethesda launcher, but otherwise I would say that would cause a way more legal issues...

People did purchase the game on Bnet and taking it away and granting a free Steam copy doesn't sound like a good idea, so many things could go wrong... I'm afraid the only solution is to buy the game twice, sorry... The good thing is that you can buy the cheapest edition available, and you will save all Ultimate edition bonus items! Personally, I had to buy this game twice, first I pre-order a $100 Ultimate Edition via Bnet, then I purchased $40 Standard edition on Steam during a sale (40% off), and I also purchased a $50 mount bundle, so I actually spent $190 on D4 already :fscared:
