Diablo 4 Transferability from Battle.net to Steam
I urge Blizzard Entertainment and Steam to consider implementing a system that allows players who already own Diablo 4 on Battle.net to transfer their licenses to Steam without extra cost. This would not only show appreciation for the dedicated fanbase but also promote a more user-friendly and inclusive gaming experience.
I also want to acknowledge that, in such cases, review bombing may become inevitable, but in this instance, it would be justified.

Permanent limited free trial or cheaper entry edition would solve this but we know Blizzard…

Don't worry. The last time Microsoft bought Bethesda, they moved the games to Steam when they closed the Bethesda store. I think this time it will be the same with battle.net
I doubt they will close battlenet but it's possible.

They will after they got all their games on steam they will close it and allow transfers to steam just like bethesda
Just going to play Grim Dawn on steam. This game isnt worth the second purchase just for the deck, especially when i was foolish enough to buy the heroic edition on bnet. This gane doesnt measure up to all the money they want for it.

this should actually work without any problems.

I didn't think D4 was sooooo great that I spent twice as much money in such a short time.

I've already played it and would of course like to have it on steam.

so... it's currently free to "test"
funny: I installed it, started it and it automatically loaded my bnet progress.

now nobody needs to tell me from the makers that there is no "simple" solution for bnet players to transfer their "license" to steam...

sad...

they so desperate they came to steam.. even free the game is bad.
The game still requires Bnet. Why is this not a thing? O wait its Activision, they want their "fans" to double dip.
Because some people might buy it again just to have it on steam. Its more money for Blizzard which is only thing that matters ofcourse

It does not require Bnet running at least. Just an account.

Many games have done this, allowed the game to be free to install via steam, offering a temporary free trial, then to continue playing you pay via their own pay service. Especially MMOs and live service games. It's fairly common to do now, and there is no reason it's not possible now.

It's only a matter of time before all battlenet games are on Steam and the battlenet store vanishes.

Battlenet version is actually better (I own both versions), on Battlenet I can change audio language inside the main menu, while on Steam it can be done only via Steam properties, and what makes it even worse; Every time you change language, Steam downloads 1GB of data and deletes the other language data, I don't know why they made it that way, lots of other Steam games doesn't force you to download other language data more than once...

/EDIT/:
Also, in Steam version you can't opt-out of 4K textures, while on Bnet you can save ~40GB of free space, by installing SD asset pack.

Congratulations for falling for a manipulative decision blizzard made specifically for the steam version. Thats like blaming steam for sonys r-friended language region locking

I didn't blame anyone, I just pointed out the differences, that's all. Because players deserve to know all upsides and downsides before they made the purchase, not after!

Huh, that must suck for Steam Deck users

This ain't gunna happen cause Steam needs their cut for playing the game on their platform.

This would be more steam than Blizzard as I'm sure Blizz would love to sign up for that for free
You are wrong, Steam will be happy to offer a free copy of D4 to every Bnet player (be it a PC or even a PS5/Xbox player), because 30% from MTX sales is > than 30% from Diablo 4 sales! It's the Blizzard who will Lose big (with a capital L) by doing so, not Steam!

Not to mention that D4 on Bnet at one point in time had close to 7 million concurrent players (prior to Steam launch), while on Steam we have only 13.6K concurrent players)...

If you don't believe me, just read this post about Blizzard and their monetization revenue - https://www.resetera.com/threads/a-15-horse-microtransaction-in-wow-made-more-money-than-starcraft-ii.784979/
