what is insane about this design decision is that Diablo IV has no community functionality / features to speak of. There is no way to find others to group up with and play with.

I'll never understand why people shoot themselves in the stomach and go "This is for the good of the million-dollar corporation, you pirates would never understand true loyalty" when it comes to asking for terrible anti-consumer practices being put in place in games. When Blizzard decides it's done supporting these servers goodbye D2R,3,4, and all others, but thanks to the fact that they don't require you to be always online you can still play D2, D1, Warcraft 1-3, and Starcraft without needing to hook always online BS and DRM into your computer. If they find a way to crack it as the THPS people did, that will suck because paying customers will get a worse experience and pirates will get the better version.

As much as it turns sour in my mouth to say this, just do what Ark does, make 2 versions, You can have your Online community that people log into to play like any game that uses online servers and you can do all the checks that supposedly stop people from doing this, and boom that's it, and then you can have an offline version where you can't take your offline character online, but you can take your online character offline (for Ark, you could put your Official Server character into unofficial servers, but you couldn't transfer a character from an unofficial server to an official one.)

The're not gonna do that, the very reasons they forced online is to entice you with battle passes and snazzy armors others are wearing.

i ignore every online element in this game. it's barely even noticable. i played diablo 2 back in the day totally offline. no interest in grouping with others or any of the live service stuff. i would love for an offline mode so that i dont have to worry about server status and connection drops, but whatever.
