How to transfer from Battlenet to Steam ?

OK so just wanted to ask this because i have no clue how it's gonna happen.

If i buy Diablo 4 on Steam how do my characters and progress from Battlenet transfer over to Steam ?

Is there like a prompt when you start the game on Steam ?

Or how ?

You will have to link your battlenet account in order to even get to the char creation screen. I dont remember it in full detail but for me it was very straightforward.
I had only played the open beta back in march previously and do not own D4 on my Bnet account, but I received the gifts for that just fine.

So it seems like you just get access through steam to your Bnet account and should keep your progress from there.

Right now you can't not for free but you 99% likely will be able to next year once Microsoft is in charge.

I found a few topics saying that only an account is needed without the launcher itself.

Yes when you launch the game on steam, you will have to log into your Battlenet* account (or create a new one).
And then that account is linked to your steam Diablo 4 game.

And yes the topics are correct, you wont have to actually login through the battlenet submask again after that.

I dont remember exactly, sorry, though i thought it was very straightforward.
Logging in with the Bnet account you want to link with Steam.

Maybe then you'll have to add a security pin, that you get sent to your E-mail for a new logging attempt from a different device.
However that might have something to do with the security settings on your Bnet-Acc.

You´re prompted to login with your Bnet account (user and password)
Then you´re requested to link with Steam through mobile bnet authenticator and it´s done
No Bnet launcher is needed

All process take a couple of minutes or less :)

If you don't have a battle net account then you have to make one, if you already have one, you'll get a webpage where to link your battle net account with steam, after you've logged into both in the browser and linked you're done.
After that you don't have to login anymore.

And no there won't be a battle net launcher for this on steam.

Point being you'll be forced to make an account or login into a battle net account and then link it with steam.

You just follow a linear path, there is no need for a guide for it, you create/login (bnet) + link (steam) = play.

Linking works exactly the same way as on any other webpage where you can choose to what you want to link your account with.

Forget the authenticator crap, it's optional, unless you use it to login to the bnet account.

Saves are part of the account of bnet, and steam will use that account info that you decided to login with and link it with steam. Diablo 4 is basically like any mobile game with proper cross saves, 1 account play on whatever platform you want, minus the f2p part aka you have to buy the license to play it on another platform.

there's nothing to transfer as you still play it through bnet servers, your progress and characters are stored on their servers

Yeah the microsoft part is nonsense, it only works for console/pc of the microsoft store, I think anyway, that if the game is on xbox console and on pc microsoft store, then you only need to buy it once.
On any other store platform, you still have to pay for it again, if it ain't f2p, for any game from any platform.

Actually, after googling around. Microsoft doesn't do it for all their games.
