Steam Deck: D4 ingame FSR settings
I activated FSR 2 in the Diablo 4 settings but when I open the steam deck integrated hardware overlay (fps, CPU clock and temps, etc) while playing, it shows: FSR off. This confuses me, because I immediately got a 10 fps increase with FSR 2 activated; or at least I thought so. Is it really off?

Yep. I left the settings at default with these exceptions:

Textures to High (Medium is very blurry)
Anisotropic Filtering to 8x (shouldn't have performance impact)
Upscaling set to FSR 2.0 with 50% sharpness and on Balanced mode

The more you use FSR the more you can tell when it's on because of image characteristics. Overall it's not that much worse than the default TAA the game uses and the performance gains are substantial.

Steam Deck overlay only shows when FSR is on at the system level. This means you'd need to set the in-game resolution to a lower value (i.e. 800x600) and set the Steam Deck upscaling mode to FSR. Then you would see FSR in the overlay.

The Steam Deck overlay has no way of knowing that you turned on FSR 2.0 in-game

I can't understand why these above settings aren't working on my Steam Deck. I have FPS dipping to below 10 FPS often, even on the home screen of the game. Medium didn't seem to help either. Only extra settings beyond the FSR/High ones above, are on the Steam Overlay. I have it set to 40hz/40fps max, and enable tearing. I also have CryoUtilities setup. Are one of those pieces my issue?

You guys have D4 on SSD or SD? I'm getting some serious freezes on SD. Less noticeable, but pretty hard on SSD too. It seems to be common when moving between zones.

Also, with medium settings and FSR set to balanced i can get ~3 hrs on battery if i limit TDP to 10W. Tested on T4 nightmare dungeons.

SSD. The game already has a lot of I/O overhead as is. Would definitely recommend using internal SSD.

I'm using the internal SSD.

What do you mean with freezes? 1-2 seconds freeze/stutter or complete hardware freeze?Sometimes the game freezes/stutters for 1-2 seconds when I enter a new zone, or a Legion event. After that, it's all smooth again.

Several seconds freezes during transitions. So it's not just me. Thanks.

I mean that happens on high end hardware too. 12700k + fast DDR4 + 3500MB/s NVMe + RTX 4090 is not immune to the game hard freezing for 5-10 seconds at a time when opening inventory in town, when loading into a legion event, etc.

I'd still probably recommend internal SSD but even then the Deck isn't immune to what I assume is networking based lag.

Hasn't thought about network lag possibility, but now that you mention it, each zone is definitely on different servers (you can see it by jumping latency when moving between zones). Strange that it causes full freeze, and not just typical "interaction" freeze.

Having almost same specs on "big" pc, can see lags after today's patch too.
