Keep Ares and Storm Classic for sure(classic Storm has a few covers in the prologue you can get as awards). I'd keep Cap too if you can.
The commons are really important for new players because it's really easy to build them fast and Widows stun and Modern Storm's green ability are really handy. I started the game with those two and a Juggernaut, it seemed to get me rolling into the game quite nicely.
Don't ditch your commons until you have a few covers for each of your 2*s like Ares and classic storm.
Oh and there are sometimes tourneys only 1*s can play in.
PS-I tend to keep the characters I like (example: you'll never see a Thor in my lineup even though he's an all-around good addition to your team), so some of the stuff I told you is fairly biased. Like, Iron Man is probably the best tank for new players, but I'm not a fan and there's a 3*** variant that you'll eventually get. There are also 4-5 different Wolverines, so I only keep the rares to save space in my roster.
The bag man should be removed from MPQ period, he you should sell, Ares is like the 2 star version of juggernaut, he is great in my book, magneto i dunno, i wouldnt keep him since he doesnt kinda fit on my playstyle, Captain america is a personal choice of yours if you want to keep him or not, i kept mine because i kinda like how you can build up combos late game with him.
Also hawkeye is gona get buffed somehow, i dont know how, but i have mine at min lv with full covers waiting too see the buff, when you put hawkeye with capt tanking for him he is supreme.
He's probably good against goons, but against other heroes/villains his powers don't help all that much. If you have space and like the character, keep him I guess, you'll fight alot of goons in this game. It would be interesting to see what a maxed out bagman can do, lol.
Does your Hawkeye look like Eminem(blonde hair? and blueish uniform). I'd keep the 2* Hawkeye if you can spare the room. I never used the 1* Hawkeye.
As for anything above 1* characters, it's all up to your preferences. Bagman, as has already been mentioned, is incredibly niche and likely one of your primary choices to drop if you're going to be limited in roster space. He can be really useful against goons and extremely limited in usefulness anywhere else.
Storm Classic is the one you're the most likely to keep, she's a mainstay in most rosters across the game, even in certain situations for people that have plenty of 3* covers.
The rest are all depending on preferences, drops and composition. I do believe people seem to be selling 2* Magneto (Marvel NOW) a bit short though - He's amazing once you get him some red and purple covers, especially once they hit 5. His blue power is crap though. He can produce ridiculous amounts of Blue AP, creating cascades aswell as critical tiles in the process, which combos well with Storm Modern's blue power. The mainstay of his red power is the fact that it provides AP for all the tiles it destroys (unlike the blue). When maxed it'll blow up everything in a 5x5 area centered on the tile and only has a 1 turn activation time, which translates into a truckton of AP on top of the ridiculous damage it deals. It's expensive though.
Bottom line? See what covers you get from packs, what characters you think you will find the most useful for your tactics and setups and then decide which ones to keep. Consult the MPQ wiki if you need to know how a power grows with more covers.
im a free player aswell and i consider myself to have done very well although i have now put in about 100 hours i have something like 19 character slots with pretty much all my current crop levelled to the maximum their current powers will allow, i dont agree with people who say this game is pay to win, sure the likelyhood of actually winning an event is slim but you can still finish very high in the ranks
in fact usually i find myself trying hard to maintain a certain rank in order to unlock powers for certain characters, thats the hard part
Do Not get rid of Magneto he is a fairly good character just be carefull how you use his covers. He is not my main line up OBW, Classic Storm and Thor are main group. Get a couple of solid 2 stars and you'll be able to be fairly competetive.
Iron Man 35, Storm Modern, Black Widow Modern, Hawk Eye Modern Are all keepers IMO and IM 35, Modern Storm and Black widow are good for 1 star tournies. I got rid of Bagman and Venom post haste. I've sold a lot of Jugernauts too I figure i'll build a jugernaut one day when i get extra space.
My main problem is I have bearly all the current 3 Stars Missing Black Panther and i doubt I'll get 3 Star Thor this tournie ( still kind of pissed that 3* appears to be a 2* clone that i have to waste ISO on to get him up to where my 2 * is anyways). 3 Stars are long term investments tho I only have a couple covers of each . The one exception is i have 4 Purple covers of Loki for his switch power.
Pick 3 2*'s you like and level them up and start saving coin for more slots. For a casual Free player that's all Coin is worth for anyways as you'll get covers eventually.
Keep Ares.
I dropped Bagman, Venom and Magneto. Although if you leveled up the Venom he could be useful. My other current favorites are Thor and Black Panther. But those covers tend to be on the rare end. And you'd prob have to either get lucky or rank high in a couple of events to obtain them.
Basically any heroes that require a countdown greater than 2 before their powers activate I tend to toss.
Oh, and for Jeffro: he runs identical hp as Wolverine, so 3560 at 85.
