The melee weapon interaction with range is the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a game.
I've started a run with the assassin and not been able to hit anything because enemies who come inside my range to attack are too close for me to actually hit. I have to line enemies up so I attack the closer ones, so that the attack actually hits enemies behind it if I'm very lucky.

Barbarian feels awful despite seeming potentially fun.

Any weapon with a stabbing motion just seems utterly useless when paired with even the slightest amount of range.

Games like this often have a disparity between ranged and melee build power levels, but the melee builds in this game feel bugged. Surely this is not intended?

Enough range and enough weapons and nothing gets close enough to get inside your range.

Unless it starts there, in which case too much range means you can never hit them at all.

The horizontal slash melee are the worst for this. It should be a cone, not a crescent moon slash that's 2 meters away.

I actually tried a flail again today and when I was standing still it missed most of the enemies coming at me by overswinging =p

So don't add range to your build and use weapons with the same type of attack?

This is a problem only with manual target. If you have auto target you can hit enemies close to you no problem with high range. Makes range absurdly strong for melee weapon in fact as you can hit enemies much more safely.

I've never used manual target. I find it's mostly only daggers I seem to have this issue with, even on floor 1

no they should fix it. it should be AOE weapon and a mix of single hit weaponns not, single hit weapons to compensate for poor hitbox.
