Black woman in 12th century England?
I've just gotten to the part where Aliena and Richard are trying to get money to see their father. The person they talk to, Meg, is clearly black yet it's never commented at all by our main characters. It's not impossible for a black person to be in England in the Medieval period but the game does not seem to even acknowledge her skin color. It's fine to have her in the game it's just odd that in a time period such as this, no one is surprised to see a black person among them. Am I missing something here?

As I've said, I have nothing against having a black character in the game but this game utilizes a historical setting in which it would've been very rare to have seen a black person in England at the time. I was expecting some of the characters to comment on her but no one bats an eye and that's what made it strange for me to see.

A black woman could be in England of the 12th century, adopting Christianity and marrying a crusader, but the fact that no one pays attention to this is fiction. She was not black in the original book.

She is the wife of a wool-merchant she could be greek :)
Meg represents a trader from a foreign land in my opinion.
As Dark_half-Elf says, also slavery was at an end and we know slaves were bought and sold from all over the world.
Hence the colour of her skin may define her like that a successful woman a survivor that has made it through these hard times.

If she was a trader from a foreign land then why does she have a native accent? And its not like Daedalic decided to have English accents for all characters. There are a few ingame like the knight from Toledo and the Muslims in Spain that have accents different from the English characters. So there was an effort to immerse the player.

She could be Spanish and mixed heritage as the Moors invaded Europe up through Spain. That all happened in the 700's. By the 1100's, many of their captured territories had begun to be retaken by Christian's. It's likely she is representative of Moorish traders of that time. Though it is likely they simply skirted the edge of how persons such as her might have been treated at that time. Essentially she's been white washed. With the Crusades going on 5 years after we meet Meg, it is likely that we just don't see the how others treat her as she is not the focus of the game. Though that may be part of the reason her husband was in prison, we just don't know. Not based on anything the characters said. However the game often neglects to flesh out certain details unless it becomes a plot point. Politics in the game are fairly PC around the central characters for the most part. Modern values are often espoused over historical accuracy. Not to say that certain characters might not have had their own personal philosophies but game mechanics and the source material sort of play to peoples modern expectations of how others should be treated on the whole.

but how can you fill diversity quota if everyone is white ?
i think tensions around witcher 3 and kingdom come was enough to divert any dev to make their characters white.

A bizarre and silly choice. Makes me wonder if there's any other nonsense in the game that's less obvious.

Err, it's a video game? If you want completely realistic, perhaps you should go read a book instead.

yes - beacause it video game in 2k19 we need 1 gay, 1 lesbian, 1 transgender, 1 queer and 0 white characters. And need battle mages for more epick and entertainment, because - it cool. And nuclear launch at the end - perfection. Because not need be realistic in video game based on historical romance.:selphinehappy:
