Alfred
What even happened to him in Book 3?

Edit:Nevermind. I saw him in Shiring on Chapter 20 when I, as Jonathan, was looking for Remigius.

He did die in the book, to Richard.

Edit:He didn't seem like a huge jerk in Book 2 in my playthrough. And I don't think you can kill him.

I would blame Bartholomew. Aliena needed money so she has to marry Alfred in order to help Richard take back Shiring. There weren't any "taking" happening, honestly.

As long as you have Jack befriend him in book 1, the worst you'll ever see Alfred do is be sour-tempered for a couple of days during a period of great uncertainty and stress in his life (during which his mother died). After that he's rather gentle and tolerant (even if you have Jack antagonize him as much as possible in book 2), even after the man he “loves like a brother” tried to murder him or he finds out the woman who married him is carrying another man’s baby. I felt worse for him than Aliena during the marriage sequence because unlike her he was being completely sincere, and it’s downright unbelievable the way the other characters, even his father and sister, forgot about him in book 3. He’s a dummy who didn’t learn his craft well enough and caused disaster for it, but he never took out his problems on anyone else, unlike several of the other characters.

Such a wide divergence as Aflred being a villain or a good man is very interesting at first but it fails to pay off when the end of the game plays out as if he’s a villain regardless of how his character turned out. If the game was going to railroad Alfred like this it shouldn’t have bothered making it possible for him to turn out such a nice guy. Just make him consistently unlikable. The way it is it makes it possible for the supposed heroes of the story look selfish and ungrateful.

I agree. Alfred really wasn't all that horrible in book 2, in my play-through. Yes, he makes a comment about Aliena perhaps marrying him, but Jack's obsession with making him "take it back" was weird. It wasn't insulting. Asking Aliena to marry him, when he knew she was in love with Jack, was obnoxious, but he didn't mistreat her at all, when they were married. She refused to sleep with him, but he was perfectly reasonable about it. That he stormed off after finding out she was pregnant with Jack's baby was hardly the worst he could have done. In the book (I gather), he was horrible, and did things worth hating him for, but not in my play-through. They should have had a better resolution for him.

Didn't he remark that she was like a wh-or-e??
