Very disappointing. Looked really fun in the trailers but upon playing its really generic and boring. Levels are not unique and interesting like other rogue likes, the enemies are super generic, and there are very blatant AI generated assets all over the game. Really sad about this one.

One thing I will say about this game...it has good bones. A little more flesh and this game would be received better. I am enjoying the game quite a bit myself but wish there was more here.

The aesthetic is cool. The combat is fun and on hard at least is fast-paced. The enemies all have something special about them that adds an element to the combat when they are present. The hook mechanics are fun and is much more engaging then the "blinking" that other VR games use. The story is fine enough, the voice acting is alright aside from a few moments.

My real problem with the game is the lack of room variety and diversity. You would think a rogue-like would have a decent amount of different rooms...Dead Hook suffers here. You will run into the same rooms often, sometimes back to back. The only real way you start seeing more then a few rooms is by progressing further into the run. Where you ultimately will run into a few different rooms at those same stages throughout. The biggest thing that would fix this game would be to add 15 times the maps currently in the game and throw your runs into some actual rogue-like randomness. Add a game mode where you challenge yourself to a 50-room run and call it "Dead Run" or "Resaract Madness" or whatever. Expand the enemy and map pool and this game will have some good replayability and keep me coming back to shoot and rip into the Resaract horde.

i wanted this to be so much better then it is, but the story is okay, voice acting is meh, levels are sorta meh, atmosphere is meh, i will say, the grapling hook is amazing and probably the best part about the game music is like a 6/10, and why the ♥♥♥♥ is the ai so damn horny, and why is she moaning in my ear the entire time
-also theres a bug when i load in sometimes my hands dont exist and i have to restart the game

TLDR - theres nothing in this game that rlly stands out, nothing to make it special, so i cant rlly say you should or shouldnt play

I was very hype for thi but sadly the expectation feel bad.
Gameplay.
Gunplay with grapple is fun.
Melee is horrible including the ultimate. Half of the time during ultimate. I just dashing all over the place even enemy not far. Your hook already aimlock on it. Swinging don't feel satisfying. You just poke them. They explode.

Same goes with execution. Ripping them apart don't feel like ripping. You just tap both top and bottom body and they just rip apart. Don't have to yank them off. You better off just hook them for execution.

Voiceacting is just eh ok.

level design.... I rather get burn by torches than lava.

The game still need some improvement.

The hook gameplay is a original and cool idea, but is executed in a oversiplified manner. No physics, no swinging, just a direct pull in the chosen direction. Making the gameplay original, but quickly boring.
And its way overused. You end up playing entirely yanking yourself off the ceiling all the time.
Combat is actually a positive : weapons are easy to reload in action, easy to understand, difficult to master.
For me the real negative, the reason why I'm not opting for a positive recommendation, is that the environnements are much too repetitive and oversiplified.
There's only 2 distinct environnements, the ship of the tutorial and upgrade/restart area, and the actual gameplay area in the "Doom temple" style. There's a reason why the doom games only feature this style a couple of percent of each game.. its impressive to step into.. but very simple and quickly boring.
After 1 hour I had pretty much done and seen it all. I pushed along to 2.7 hours just to see if there's more around the corner.. there was not.
Dead Hook could have been so much better if they had included more environnements and gameplay alternatives, maybe going through the guts of the planet with the hooks not working.. but nope.
If the price was 5€ I'd say go for it. But at 20€ its a lot for a simple game clearly built for the quest2. Good point though, it does run on a potato, lighter even than beatsaber or pistol whip on the GPU, while still looking decent.

Good easy fun. Great mechanics :)

doom in vr. its awesome

all my previous issues i had i solved only thing i do not like is replacing the weapon on your shoulder as it is a bit temperamental (i found out it has a bit of a sweet spot)
