For simplicity's sake can we just call them "metal boxes with spring pushies that hold tubes that hold burny powder ignited by a poppy thing which creates poofy gasses that push a copper-covered lead blob that is also held by the tube but only works correctly if it's in a gun"?

Only difference is that the magazine is also a feeds ammo into the weapon's chamber (in the process of firing) using a mechanical element (the spring). Clips only purpose is to hold ammo for easier loading and contains no mechanical element to assist in feeding ammo (which is in the gun itself), but may contain mechanical elements to assist in loading/reloading.
