I tried several configurations, and in the end what worked for me was scrapping the ram, going with medium armor, and making sure I had tires for asphalt not sand equipped. Then just knowing the course and when to slow down for turns. I personally was taking more damage being careless on the corners than I was from enemy vehicles.
Just drive save and shoot him with the Thunderpoon.
Booster upgrades could also be good, if u should crash.
Pretty much what I did as well. It's good to have a maxed ammo belt too. The race ends pretty quick when you've got 15 maxed thunderpoons. Ignore everyone else and just go for the Big Chief.
Going to play it differently for my second play-through.
It does? I hadn't even noticed. :)
Ignore my recommendation for maxed ammo belt then!
1.) IMMEDIATELY when the race starts hit the Big Chief with a Thunderpoon. You have to do this immediately before the other cars zip in the way.
2.) IMMEDIATELY AFTER you fire it, hit the boost and try to get ahead of the 3 rear cars. As soon as your thunderpoon's cooldown expires, fire again as soon as you get another shot.
3.) Try to get ahead of the last car if he's still in the way. Don't rush to stay behind the Big Chief; he's slow so take your time on turns and just avoid hitting walls and other cars. As soon as your cooldown expires, hit him again.
4.) I think with maxed thunderpoon it only takes 4 hits, and if you managed the first 3 like this then the last one is a cinch.
What trips people up is getting distracted by the other cars, hitting walls and wasting time having to catch up, or the most common one never having a clear shot because your thunderpoon is on cooldown during optimum firing opportunnities.
I'll take some of this in account. I already hit him immediately. I used to end up hitting a car (They sort of turn center) which still happens but I got the timing down and I get a free hit on him most of the time, now.
PITing slows me down and I can't spam it on the boss because I almost never see the ♥♥♥♥♥♥. He's always a mile ahead and around corners.
I've gotten him down to like, one hit left. Once. ONCE. I'm getting better (After thirty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ attempts) but I can still only get three to four hits on him. (Including the freebie at the start, which only works half the time).
I sorta got lucky on my victory run, I managed to remain closely behind Big Chief and managed to get my few hits in.
Method: got the first easy shot, boosted past everyone, avoided walls like the plague, saved ammo for the boss and took a shot at him whenever possible. I got 4 shots in but he was still alive and then it said I won... I guess he must have crashed but I couldn't care less because I didn't have to do this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ level anymore :)
Also, Keyboard ftw.
