Gastown race = frustratingly hard?
Am I doing something completely wrong here? I have an almost fully maxed out car and I've been trying different configurations (max armor+ram for max hp which gives terrible handling, or a slimmed down version for max handling) and the race against Stank Gum is so frustratingly hard that I'm losing interest.

It seems as though you have to give it more or less a perfect run (never ever bumping into anything and getting turned around), plus new cars keep spawning all the time and getting in the way. My strategy so far has been to try to keep up with Stank Gum and lob thunderpoons at him. Those of you who did clear the race, what was your strategy?

I find alot of the races frustrating. Sometimes when you hit a barrel it will get stuck under you and spin you out. And the other cars forget about winning the race entirely when you are near them and just want to destroy you

Focus on making a car that you can drive well. Drive behind him and shoot upgraded poons at him. You win by killing him so you can just ignore all the other cars, and he doesn't take all that many hits to kill so you don't need to keep it up for long.

Indeed. Hardest part of the game and very frustrating. I ended up getting Stank's car really low and then lost sight of him. He ended up dying without my interference with 30 secs left on my last try. I guess he crashed or something?

You can get him pretty low (or outright kill him) in the first 30% of the track on the first lap. I think he innevitably pulls away from you after the first few turns. If you keep racing and trying to at least not crash so much on turns, you can catch up and hit him a couple more times to end it.

Suggestion: get alot of handling and make sure you pass through the tunnels that have the healing spray. At the start, boost your way past the first 3, then slow aim as soon as you can and thunderpoon him a few times before you lose sight. Since you get unlimited thunderpoon, I would one-shot any car that showed up and tried to avoid the exploding car. Drive well, catch up to stank after a few minutes and hit him one last time.

Some tips: Go with light or medium armor, anything heavier is overkill.

Take the ramming grill off, you dont need it and this will imrove your cars performance.

You can get a free hit on Stank Gum right at the start by shooting him immediately.

If you fall behind adn can't see Stank Gum anymore don't worry, you can catch up with him.

Always take the first right and then all lefts.

Allways drive through the healling areas, they look like steam.

Dont shoot cars behind you as the game forces you to watch the explosion, usualy then causing you to creash.

I'm quite surprised to hear people having troubles with it considering I found it disappointingly easy. I just had to shoot a few thunderspoons at him and won in around thirty seconds

You have unlimited thunderpoons in that race tho, i did it in under 2 minutes easy.

I wish it was more of a race with more oponents, not just cannon fodder.

i have handling at max, no front bumper, lvl 1 armor only, max engine, max boos,t best tires, and trying to drive with keyboard is frustrating the crap out of me. im ready to punch my pc in the face. either car has a broken tie rod causing it to jerk one direction instantly even when noone is near me. causing me to spin into a 180 every time without fail. hits an imaginary object or a corner because hey we want you to shoot across the friken track for no reason. controls are only this messed up during races. regular driving in the wastes its fine. just when i have to race does it become either super sensitive or a dead stick. wtf is up with that crap i even trained by racing thru the underdark to check handling etc actually made a perfect run. so wtf can't i all of a sudden drive i na damn REQUIRED race?

Remember guys, spam the thunderpoon at everything in front of you or to your side. It makes the race a lot more doable. As soon as I realised this I did it on my third try.

It is still the hardest part in the game though.

I didn't make anything special, Furnace with my usual kits, the yonky girl makes an easy fight with her explosive harpoons.

First try.

I think car bodies might effect weight, so try and get a lighter body for your magnum opus if handling is an issue.

There is also a convoy in the Great White (unfortunately I can't remember which one) which offers a bonnet attachment that improves handling.

In the website they give stats for some bodies:

-------------------Speed------Damage-----Armor
Ripper------------08-------------06-------------04
Furnace----------04-------------08-------------10
ShovelFace ---04-------------08-------------10

Its absolute garbage and the handling and top speed ratings for your car mean nothing. Everything will go faster than you and your car will always handle like ♥♥♥♥

also the stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ camera will make sure you're always looking everywhere but where you want.
