Shotgun in Melee Combat

Ocassionally in melee combat I will automatically and as far as I can tell unavoidably use my shotgun, wasting ammo. Does anyone know a way to avoid this?

I havent found out yet but i had the same impression maybe it happens by using accidentaly a combo that is unknown yet. I noticed as well that a knife attack appears sometimes that you can use or not use midfight??! Did you check if it uses up ammo at all if you use such a finisher?? Ah and are you using a controler or the keyboard mouse to play? it can be it shows in controller support as Highlighted button or the like at least i saw it on ps4 videos.

don't hit the shotgun button? you mean the gut shot skill? if you press b (with a controller) when up close to someone, you shoot them in the belly

I'm using a mouse/keyboard, it been happening since before I got the gut shot skill and it does use up ammo. I'm no hitting the quick shot button, I'm pressing on attack button and on seemingly random occasion it's followed up with the shotgun.

You're either holding the right mouse then clicking left (as if to parry and strike, but miss the persom) or... you're tapping the middle mouse button. I realized today that the middle mouse is a quick shot from the hip.

The only other time it would happen is if you have the execution skill upgrade.

I think if you long press Right Click it will start aiming and if during that time you press Left Click it will shoot. It's kinda stupid, since you use Left and Right click to attack and parry, but you have to be careful not to press Right Click for too long or Max will start aiming his shotgun and shot if you attack at that time.

im sure you hit the Nail Adi it happend at such a battle where i did not release rclick fast enough and wondered how that shot did go off. Thnx .
