How long is a storm?

I wouldn't say safe....but it is profitable. You can always fast travel to a stronghold if you don't want to deal with a storm. If you do go out into one, look for circular scrap markers on the minimap. These are Muthaloot crates and generally have 300-500 scrap each. Harpoon them and drag them somewhere a little protected from the storm (overhang, cliffs, etc) then kick them open and enjoy the loot.

I've had about 6 storms now (haven't left Jeet's yet, though) and they've all lasted until I've picked up 3 Muthaloots. Except 2. Where I died.

From what I can gather - the longer you stay standing or motionless in a storm is the longer the storm takes to pass. If you move around, drive around or go through a structure the storm passes much faster.
