How to get a motherload of scrap

If you encounter a Storm, don't hide from it.
You should drive into it, as the storm has "Muthaloot"-Boxes flying around inside.
Every single box gives 300(+volition%) scrap.
I just got into my first storm and earned 2000 Scrap that way.
You have to harpoon them, then get into a spot where the debris doesn't hit you once every second. Then you get out of your car destroy the box manually.

2:
Theres these cars driving around marked with a cog-icon.
Bring them to an allied fortress to earn 500(+volition%) scrap.
They appear quite often too.

i found number 2 out when i kid naped the driver and jumped in his car and a msg pop up telling me to go back to base and get alot of scrap from it

How do you actually open them? I use the harpoon as asked then I have no idea how to break them, I drove at full speed with the crate behind me hoping it would open but nothing, I have rushed into it and nothing either...

Edit: nevermind... you open them on foot *feels stupid*

Edited it in anyways, since the question is legit, even if you figured out on your own already.

You can also open them by ramming them or sideswiping, the scrap that falls out wont blow away with the storm like the box does

How did you get 2000 from a single storm?
The max I got with full Volition (+50% more scrap) was 1350.

I believe there is no maximum number to the boxes you can get. I got around 5 or 6 of them in one storm.

most i've gotten during a storm was 1800 scrap +25% from voilition so far. sometimes when the storm subsides there are still muthaloot crates in your vicinity. But they do dissapear after about 2 mins, one dissapeared right in front of m before i could get to it.

So I finally understood why I wasn't having a lot of fun and this is something the game actually doesn't explain at all : it's actually counterproductive to clear the map. Sure it's written "lower the threat to build your magnum opus" except, well, don't.

You don't want to have the threat level under let's say 3 big maximum in any zone since it actually lower EVERYTHING, notably patrols and scrap trucks.

Simply get a cleanup crew in each stronghold, same thing for the one giving you scrap over time when you log off and go wild on the road / in the storms.

If you play it like let's say, Far Cry, game become very very slow paced. You can get a lot of scrap by just being a road warrior combined to cleaning a few camps (that got a car full of scrap in them), on top it's WAY FUNNIER.

the 1st time i saw a storm i read the tool tip pop up an thought loot but didnt actually see any.

the 2nd time it happened i was chasing down a convey. got wrecked.

the 3rd time i actually saw the crates, harpooned it, figured out i had to break it myself after watching it flap around like a flail. got out the care and proceess to kick it in and then struck by lightinging. gg. this game hates me

I've tried the storm a few times. I usually snag one and my car gets blown up by lightening. But I do grab the "scrap trucks" when I see them. When u upgrade your harpoon some it makes it easy. Just rip off door then pull out driver.
