Refueling balloons

So I've found several balloons that are out of fuel. My thinking is, there's a small generator thing next to it, guess I should bring a fuel canister to it. But there's no intereaction prompt or anything.
So my question is, how am I supposed to refuel the damn thing? I must be doing something wrong but no idea what. Is there a perk I need first or something?

I got stumped on this too. You need to stand next to the ballon carriage to fill it and not the generator thing which is powering it.

There's a tank on the side of the basket.

grab a fuel cannister and use it on the generator (worked for me) otherwise im not sure : /

same, thats gotta be a bug cause i fueled it up before at a generator and now i have to fuel it at the balloon

Either the baloon OR the generator for the winch needs fuel. It can be both for all i know so far. Fuel the baloon to go up and down, fuel the generator when the baloon was put up and you need it back down.

there is no glitch, it's like Cruisix said.... The fuel on the balloon is for the flame to make hot air that makes the balloon rise.... The generator is powering the winch that pulls the balloon down

Also note that not all balloons are out of fuel, often, something else needs to be done to get them to work.

Edit: With one there was a can of fuel nearby and I figured it must be empty. Kept trying to fill it and couldnt get it to work. Eventually hopped in and found out it was already full. Damn red herring fuel can

theres a balloon. to get to it you have to jump. I hadn't jumped since the tutorial. Couldn't remeber how. Got frustrated. Found the answer. Felt stupid.

Oh god, I thought you were somehow just messing with me. I never would have figured that out.

Edit: Seriously, I would have gone mad trying, then when I read the answer online gone actually insane. The doctors would be looking in on me in my padded cell wondering wondering why I was jumping around giggling insanely "I had to jump"
