i didn't get enough time in gta :p rockstar broke it when i was starting to have a lot of fun :(
While I did like Mad Max and I appreciated its technical quality most of all, there really is no comparison between the two.
I can't talk about the issues people mentioned here thou, since I finished playing it not long after they released heists (I guess a month or so).
What I didn't like about GTA5 is the multiplayer (you spend more time loading than playing and it really kills it for me) but since Max doesn't have one I guess that's a moot point.
If you like the genre I'd suggest getting both (MM can be found for cheap prices and I'd expect the same could be said about GTA5 by now), but GTA5 wins quite easily (as gameplay, let me stress I know nothing of recent technical issues).
Technical issues are there sadly, otherwise as i said i would advise gta for him any time of the day, i own a gtx 980ti and in places i drop as high as to 40 fps while having the game nowhere near max graphical setting, altho last patch eased stuttering a bit
The only issue I ever had was the rare crash when switching characters (happened less than 10 times anyway) and the infamous Heist mission that kept crashing after destroying the truck, but the fix for that was something in the options (I think it was the "go straight to campaing instead of menu" one).
Apart from that, it was just sweet.
It also is more hardware demanding than Mad Max, but MM is still on unreal engine after all so not a big surprise.
I would check it out myself but since I've nothing else to do in the campaing and as I said I loathed the multi, I can only suggest OP to google a bit (or read the steam forums) to get some info about that.
As long as those issues are not gamebreaking, I'm still on GTA5's side anyway. Max (and let me repeat I did like it and think it's a better game than what we've got used to nowadays) is highly repetitive, has a short story, and is definitely not polished gameplay wise (although it totally is graphically speaking) . I think you have to be sort of a fan of Max's franchise to enjoy it, while GTA5 is less of a niche product.
GTA is boring now, just another crime game to do what ever to get you into more trouble, even if you choose to fly straight... pointless game to me
