Game Won't Launch
After clicking "Play" it will show a splash screen then return to desktop without any error messages.

Windows 10. GTX 1080.

Tried;
Running as Admin.
Repairing all the VCRedists from 2005 to 2022.
Running the DirectX setups again.
Enabling and disabling all DLCs.
Reinstalling the game to a different drive.
Allowing all security privileges to the game folder.
Running with the -window command.
Making sure nothing else is running in the background.
Disabling audio devices.

I might be forgetting some things but I'm running out of ideas and would appreciate any other suggestions. Don't think I've ever had a relatively newer game this stubborn to launch, before. Considering running a crack to see if it's maybe Denuvo causing the issue.

The PC Gaming Wiki entry doesn't mention anything about this issue but I see it is fairly common, even from years ago.

I have a Steam Deck and it ran completely fine, out of the box, with that, so I've been able to play it but I would like to play it on my PC from time to time as well. I also kind of object to buying a game (that is still on sale in the store) that doesn't work on my PC. The only reason I'm able to play it, at all, is because I happen to have a Steam Deck.

I got it working. It was my hdmi cable causing the issue. I had upgraded to a 2.1 cable with a VRR display. When I put it back to my 2.0 cable with no VRR it boots past the initial splash screen and plays fine. Hope this helps

Have you tried the Vulkan Beta version ?
How old is the driver for your 1080?

The Vulkan Beta is for Linux only, as far as I'm aware. I have tried to enable it on Windows but it didn't make a difference, either way.

As for the driver for my GTX 1080, I wouldn't think having the most current driver be necessary for a game from 2015 but it's version 516.94, nonetheless. I'd be surprised if that's the issue but you never know, I suppose. I have read some folk say they had to go back to an older driver but I'm actually not really happy about doing that for just one game.

Updated graphics drivers to 527.56 and it didn't help. Nor did two cracks. Glad I got this game on sale for only £2.99.

Hmm... Seems I picked a bad time to pick this game up. Did you get a new computer or install a new OS or anything? Or is this recent install of the game on the same setup?

I have reinstalled this game just about every year since release and did a complete play through. No issues. Either I am extremely lucky or something else on your end is not done.

Just throwing it out there that I also have this issue. I was able to play it years ago thankfully but not now. It's not the first Avalanche game that has had CTD at launch issues implying there's an issue with their game engine. Renegade Ops never worked until after I had performed a full reformat of my PC.

Yeah it always used to work fine for me too, I have a ticket open with warner bros studio but they're not much use

I was playing this game a week ago with no issues. Nothing has changed on my end but today I have the same issue as you. I tried all the same fixes and still nothing. Kinda mad now!

Hmm. That's interesting. I don't have a HDMI 2.1 card (GTX 1080) but I am using a Display Port to HDMI cable on a VRR capable display. I shall do some testing in this area and report back.
