Similar Games with Relevant Vehicle Customization?

Hi,

I really enjoyed this Mad Max game. Indeed, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
I've come to the conclusion that I love vehicle customization. But not only vehicle
customization, but relevant vehicle customization. I've played Saint's row, sleeping
dogs, GTA... and their vehicle customization (besides speed modifications) is mostly
cosmetic and therefore, not really relevant, gameplay-wise.

So, I'm looking for other games like mad max where you have any kind of vehicle (I
really don't care what type) and you can and should customize it because it changes the
things you can do whit it and the possibilities in the game. Does anyone know any games
that meet this requirement?

Note: I've also played RAGE but its vehicle customization was not so relevant as in this game.

Gas Guzzlers Extreme has pretty nice customization for it's varied vehicles- Oh, and GUNS-

Oh I see, it's like an entire game made of races like the ones in Mad Max. I like it! Maybe I'll pick it up now that it's on sale. Thanks!

But, do you know any other games where you can get out of the car and do "things". A game with story, you know. It doesn't have to be an open world, although that is a genre I quite enjoy :)

The thing is I don't really care so much about the setting of the game or the atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, I really like a post apocaliptic wasteland and what you may find there (I'm really enjoying Fallout 4), but I would like to find a game where you have a vehicle to customize, whose customization is relevant and it is your main "tool" in the game. It gets you from one place to another, it helps you solve puzzles...etc. I know, It's quite specific and I doubt there are a lot of games like this :(

Not sure there is much similar to Mad Max, it,s probablly why it's so good. Maybe Rage at a lesser extend. Or Borderland has some car customization i think, but i never tried it so can't tell if it's good or not.

Other than that, i,m sorry but the only thing that come in mind, may be the Gran Turismo serie (But i think it's only on PS) with some car customization. Need for Speed serie for a more arcadish style. But if what you want is car combat with customization, then you may have some trouble to find a good game that focus on that.

I'm not a huge fan of car game, so there may be some title i missed, but those are popular enough that i heard about them.

Thanks to your tip I bought Gas Guzzlers and completed it, so I wanted to thank you!

However, this was not exaclty what I was looking for, but it was a happy discovery!

I've come up with another example of what I mean with relevant customization: Assassins Creed Black Flag. There, if any of you have played it, the upgrades you do to your ship are very relevant, since they directly affect combat thoughout the game, just like on Mad Max.
So, I guess I'm looking for an open world or sandbox game with a story but where you hace a vehicle that you hace to take care of and upgrade it because it is important to that story :)

Any idea??

Depends what you actually want. Race / upgrade / build/ story / car / any veichle.
Lots of game have upgade system. Some even made you to make your own design or AI like Colobot for example.

Well there are two older PC games that come to my mind in this category and these are both of the Interstate titles, interstate 76 + Addon and Interstate 82. You can get both of them really cheap on GoG but they will require some tinkering and fan made patches to get them to run right on modern pc but it's well worth the hassle.

Thanks for your answer! I did not know any of those! I find particularly interesting the Colobot one, because it seems to help you learn a bit of programming :)

It's very cool to discover those older hidden gems! It's sad that this kind of games get underrated and unaware only bacause of it's graphics :S Thanks!

No, I haven't tried any game of that series, but I think there is no proper story there, right?

By the way, there is another possible example: Subnautica. I know it's on early access and it still has not a proper stoy, but the vehicles in that game can be personalized and it's very important that you do so because it helps you go deeper and defend yourself better from the sea monsters! :)
