Fantastic game. Why abandoned?
Aside from the repetitive boss fights, I loved this game from start to finish.

So many side quests popping up, it took me ages to even think about doing the main line, and I didnt care. I had so much fun, and this game was so beautiful. I explored, fought, ate rats and maggots out of human carcasses, and wrecked vehicles and died in sandstorms.

Why has it received no DLC? They have a TITANIC open map to fill. The reviews are very positive across the board. There was and still seems IS interest in this game. I played it twice over on PS4, and 1.5 times over here, and recently restarted to get it all over again.

Can anyone else recall a game that fared this well that got dropped so fast by the devs in recent memory?

Still disappointed in how it was dropped. I do suppose they didnt want our money enough to keep developing it. Or is that what this sale was going to pay for?

I think it's kind of unfair to call a game abandoned because it didn't receive any dlcs. They pretty much said ever since launch that they would not make any DLCs for this game, but they would fix bugs etc, and that's what they did.

Not all games need DLCs and stuff. And I would rather see an expandalone or a sequel than DLCs. However, not having (official) mod support was a missed opportunity. I don't think mods are possible at all due to the denuvo drm, but don't quote me on that.

Well said.
Or to look at it another way, they didn't hold back or cut anything out of the game to be sold as DLC.
I miss the days when you could just buy a game and then you own all it's going to be, without being fleeced for more content.

I just had such a powerful desire to see that huge open map in game filled with so much more content.

Had dreams of wandering even more vast a wasteland doing nasty stuff to bad guys, in better vehicles, or even our own War Rigs eventually.

I usualy hate when publishers and devs push dlc down our throats, but this game i realy wish they did something just because i would love to play more. I do feel like it is a full game though and i would way rather get a finished, well polished game like this, than an unfinished game that i have to put more money into to get a full product. All i wanted was for them to patch in some kind of new game+ so you can put your magnum opus and all the other cars you unlock through the game to good use. Sadly they never did. Great game none the less.

Not fantastic by any means. Just another decently done free-roam by a company who bit off more than they could chew... There are so many little things about this game that really just piss me off. Little bugs that would be so simple to fix. I'd give it a solid 6/10 just because it's fun to drive around the desert.

Want truly fantastic open-world games?
The Witcher 3
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

I would say that it depends what you want from the game. The Wticher 3 succeeds completely in it's story and characters, but the open world gameplay is just generic killing and looting with a very controversial combat system.

If you want a massive open world game with unique car combat, Arkham style hand-to-hand combat, and story isn't really much of a concern, then Mad Max is really fun. As for MGSV, I can't speak for it because I haven't played it.

The game never gained enough popularity for the devs to do any work on it after release.

They wanted a game that would be more popular than WoW and when it did not happen they moved on to develop other games instead of waste time with this one or sequels.

They got so fed up with this game they will ignore or report people who try to contact them about the Mad Max game.

BTW I love this game and wished they make more content and a mmorpg version

Game sold fine. It's just a one-shot game designed to be rather fire-and-forget. I don't think it never wanted to be "bigger than WoW" (and that's a pretty stupid comparison if you ask me, but whatever), and developing an mmo in this day and age, especially off a strictly single player third person shooter, produced by WB, is something that won't happen no matter how successful the game is or otherwise we'd have had a Batman mmo for years at this point. It's a franchise that was largely forgotten since the 80s and a standalone product. Sometimes you want to do something and do it well rather than bloating it with continued development that would otherwise be a waste of time and money *cough*Borderlands*cough*.

Could we have a sequel? Eh, maybe. While the franchise is nondescript enough to give it a lot of chances to make a new campaign rather easily, I also don't see many ways you could seriously improve on the product without it feeling like a rehash. If it came to it, I think it would be interesting to see something set between MM 1 and 2, where there's tons of juicy lore happenings to be explored with the downfall of civilization, or a game set on the ruins of a city post Thunderdome, but the movies have never explored that and I don't think it's the intention of the franchise.

Metal Gear Solid, yes that is a fun open world game but because of that many veterans of the series hated it.

The Witcher 3 and MGSV are decenty done free-roams, and their companies bit off more than they could chew? Are you being totally serious here, my friend?

First of all, you don't even have either game in your library, so unless you've played it elsewhere- your comment carries no validity whatsoever.

The Witcher 3 won hundreds of awards, and for good reason. The story is absolutely impeccable, it's rich with characters and detail, not to mention all of the little choices that have their own consequences. Something Mad Max left TOTALLY out... no choice in dialogue. Counting all the DLC, TW3 has a little over 45k lines of dialogue. Also, the Witcher 3 is probably the best example of a game with great voice actors. Mad Max literally has two voices for regular friendly NPCs- one male, one female. This is sad. Mad Max is not even comparable to this game. Beyond the more broad differences in the game, the map and inventory screens are much better in TW3 than in Mad Max. The layout of the pause menu is integrated with the inventory screen in Mad Max.... wtf? It's just not a good game, all around.

And don't even get me started on MGSV. Mad Max does not even exist in the same universe as that holy grail. MGSV has literally hundreds of thousands of weapon and item combinations that you can deploy with into the field. Each one can be customized and used as you see fit. What about our man Max? Oh, he can carry a pipe-shotgun. Not to mention Max, as a character, looks so poorly modeled he's almost laughable at times. Snake in MGSV is as badass as a protagonist can be. And the big kicker- cutscenes. Mad Max's cutscenes are very simple- and ugly. MGSV's cutscenes look like they were ripped from a motion picture.

Saying that TW3 and MGSV are decently done free-roams is an insult. They absolutely cannot be grouped with Mad Max.

The only things that Mad Max really has going for it are these:
- Customizeable car, fun to drive
- Great and fun fighting system
- Fun environment

Missing:
- Actually good story
- Better character and inventory menu
- A freaking questlog would be nice
- For Max not to look like he is braindead
- Something along the lines of The Last of Us.... it reminded me of it, but not as good. Maybe more of a survival element. It's too easy...

What a childish way of looking at it.

Its not abandoned, its *done*. They did their thing and they moved on. No need to trickle out a bunch of half-assed DLC in an attempt to suck your wallet dry.

Plus, without making major changes to core gameplay - which DLC never do - there's not really anything you can *add*. Add some more areas to do the same things that you've done in all the other ones? Maybe get Rockstar to fund some more garish product placement?

I think I also had am image of more map space, a damn War Rig added, and just more missions or storyline after the main game.

Still, you guys made it clear enough. The devs were going to hit it and quit it, aside from bug patches.

Well, I'll play it over again I suppose :D This game revealed to me I like open map car combat games much more than I already knew. It was sparse and meant to be so. I find comparisons to the other games apples to oranges myself.
