The 'Maw' is called the 'Barrens Pass'
probably just a 'glitch' as you posted above
I never noticed it before because the minefields were always the very last thing I did in any area.
I guess it's good in a way..let's say you are just driving around looking for the minefields and you happen to get close to a 'flamer' ...the dog will alert you so you can change direction before they start shooting at you...that's something Chum doesn't alert you to.
Tho the OP states that the dog starts barking at a COMPLETED camp...that's something I haven't tested yet...don't know if i have any saves with camps completed anymore...it's also possible that the completed camp still had a flamer still standing(I always destroyed them)

what is causing all those flames I see in your sceenshots?
my 'Chums Buggy' doesn't have flames all around it
Could be remnants...but as I posted I haven't tested that yet...
actually you are the first person to even mention the dog barking...that's what made me curious
The flames are from being nearly killed by multiple cars and a mine. The car catches on fire but for some reason doesn't damage you or further damage the car. You can keep driving it forever.
Just thought I'd post this because of how weird it was and the other experience I had much earlier in the great white. I'd gone to a minefield to try and defuse it, but the dog wanted me to drive farther away from the field, and bark at a spot near a cleared scrap camp. (Not base, just a hole with a few roadkill in it.)
