Opening Storm-Boxes

When a huge sand-/wind-storm comes, and if you're in it, these "storm-boxes" come blowing along in the immensely strong wind-current, usually in threes, but I've once or twice caught sight of a fourth one per chance. These "storm-boxes":

Each box carries at least 300 loot in 100-loot scarf-ups! But how can you open one of those with other than a sawed-off shotgun blast? Nothing else I've tried has ever cracked one of those open, not even crashing the car into it, nor ignighting a gas-can near it.

I tried crashing into it with the car, and the jimmy bar can't be used to open it. I'm trying to find out if there's another way to open those without necessarily having to expend a shotgun shell, but a sawed-off shotgun blast is all I've found so far to open one.

Ehm... You surely can crack the boxes open with the crowbar.
You just have to go very close to it.
A button prompt will appear and you simply have to hold that one down until the box is open.

BTW on those boxes there's a label "made in Australia" ;)

You are saying that you don't get the 'kick open' prompt when standing vest to a 'storm box/crate'?

I always kick them open. Try walking up next to different sides of the box.

Okay, I'm getting the [E] KICK OPEN prompts now--ah, good!

By the way, I also found out that they're not called "storm-boxes" or whatever. Those are called Muthaloot crates in the Wasteland.
