CANT PASS GATES @ DEAD BARRONS PASS

ok posting this to see if anyone can help with this part of the game, i need to get past the big gates at the Dead Barrons pass , the one surround by a big wall and 2 Skulls heads on the front of each of the gates with fire coming out of them, i have tried everything to get through it, ramming it, hitting at every section of each of the skulls to pull them down and break them, and the same with the gate on its own , any ideas, only thing i can maybe think of if none of that works thees another way in tat i need to get behind the gate on foot to open it to let the car through !!!
