(Truly) Exploring the Big Nothing
Hello people; if you're still lurking on this game, as I am, you may still be curious as to what lies beyond the boundaries of the map. Well, my friends, let me document my travels for you.
I downloaded a trainer to give me infinite health and drove out into the unknown. (North-East, for those wondering.) For about five minutes, the map seemed normal, ignoring the storm that I was stuck in. Pressing on, the storm eventually faded, and everything cleared up. The white warning message was still plastered across my screen, telling me to go back, (obviously I didn't,) and the map seemed... Relatively normal.
It was bland. Rolling hills, small rocks, bumps and texture on the ground. Curious, I kept driving, wondering if the map was going to continue generating forever or if it would end and I would fall through the world. Suddenly, the warning message disappeared, and, much to my surprise, scenery started appearing. Rock pillars popped into view, and I saw a broken bridge in the distance. I drove to the bridge and was surprised to see that it was fully rendered and detailed, coupled with rusted signs. The bridge ended hanging over a massive ravine, which, much to my surprise, looked as if it belonged in the main game. Looking down the ravine I saw more bridges, more details.
And that's as far as I've gotten, for now. Going to press on after I post this. Will post screenshots if requested.

Almost immediate update: I hit the end of the map! After a minute or so of driving from my bridges and ravine, the white warning text re-appeared. After a while of bland scenery, I was faced with a small wall overlooking a huge, straight drop. My theory is that the actual map is much bigger than we thought; SO much bigger, only lacking complete details. I hereby dedicate myself to exploring it further!

Actually in an early report about the game (before it was released) the Big Nothing was going to be a regenerating area......where you could drive endlessly...but that idea got scrapped.

Yeah....been there...but I was able to get to the other side of the ravine...there are roads...that will show up on the HUD even...

Yeah....I believe the game was supposed to be larger...maybe included the Bullet Farm since it's mentioned in the main story...but got scrapped due to time restraints(remember the game came out late as is)..it also explains why there seems to be missing elements from the game(no difficulty setting, no reset setting, etc)

There are a few abandoned Buzzard camps with scrap...and Ryuu pointed one out about one that is underground(need the pry bar to open it), has a few buzzards to fight off....this is not the 'hidden' buzzard camp with the vehicle to take(if wanted)...I also found one out West.

The ravine and bridge area is the setting of the final chase and showdown in the main game, when you hunt down Scrotus.

I heard of the endless survival/exploration mode, it sounds very cool! Shame it didn't make it in. I can't help but wonder why there's still so much map left over, though, considering it doesn't actually generate endlessly.

I haven't completed the game yet, so I had no idea! That clears things up, thank you.

Wish I could compile an extended map that included the Big Nothing somehow. That'd be handy to have, give explorers a little tour guide to go along with.

The scene that is displayed on the main menu screen is also out in the Big Nothing, and a location you can get to. Also, the long straight road that Max drives out along at the end of the game is a real road you can discover as well

This may be the opening road..

I wish the game had better mod support/tools so the community could've expanded on this fun little game.

Wow, that's crazy, haven't managed that :) What about shotgun and harpoon?
Just Chill Feb 8, 2018 @ 10:22am
The harpoon is an "auto target" weapon, so I doubt you can shoot birds with it.
Ryuu Feb 8, 2018 @ 10:26am
Hm, i guess so

You can with a Thunderpoon (look for a bunch of circling birds above a body)....but there is nothing left to eat
Shotgun needs to be in close proximity
Sniper rifle is by pure accident or if you can get close enough to one

Ryuu... why would you prefer a problem? You could have let it go.
