I understand that maggot servings can be found on corpses. Since the map is so large and the locations of maggot servings are so scattered, are there distinct locations where I can find them? The maggot servings feel tough to find on such a large map.

I haven't seen anything about specific locations. They seem kind of random. Just keep an eye out for corpse that aren't burnt. I've found most of mine in small raider/scrap locations.

most are random but there are some that are fixed, eg the few that are at certain balloon sites.

There have been plenty in the camps. It's one of those achievements you'll definitely get if you just play the game and keep an eye out.
