GASTOWN RACE BEST CAR TO USE
So I wanted to beat the gastown race but Stankgum being the price of crap he is just wouldn't die. I've currently upgraded my thunderpoon to the 3rd best and so close to the 2nd best. I know removing armor and ram helps but are slick runs useful in this race and what thunderpoon level kills him quickly but I won't have to spend so much scrap making it max level? Please put good builds below to help those who view this discussion and answer my questions pls. Thx in advance fellow wastelanders!!!:steamhappy:

Everyone has their own opinion on the best setup for that race, and most say remopve armour and grill. I disagree with that and I will tell you my setup if it helps. A few people have used it and found that it worked for them.

Grill = Brawl Bar
Armour = Flim Flam
Exhaust = President, or best you have
Tyres = Sandsliders
Suspension = Little Guy Lift

Also it is best to have the thunderpoon FULLY upgraded, that way it only takes 4-5 shots to end the race. Not that they help much but you can also add hood ornaments for extra weapon damage if you want.

Also best to have your boost upgraded as well. The reason I like to use armour is because it hoilds you to the road so you don't bopunce and slide around bends and the lower suspension helps with this also.

Finally if you comfortable with 1st person driving I highy reccommend it as it gives you more control over the vehicle in my opinion and makes it easier to handle. At the start of the race, if you are quick, you can usually get 1 hit in early by just using the quickfire button.

Hope this helps you mate...

Don't forget "pit-stops" with repairs(raining down chrome paint).

True, but that is IF you need them. Done right the race is over in the time it takes to load and shoot 4-5 poons, about 30 secs or so.

WRONG. Boost ahead of them and you don't have to worry about them.
Upgrade reload time is the most important feature. Next is Boost. Then Thunderpoon to L4 at least. Just boost past the the other cars at the start and then it's easier to stay right behind him, he's not that fast.
During the countdown hold the aim button centered and fire as soon as the crosshair appears for a first hit on Stank Gum.

No, enemy cars will always catch up to you no matter what your speed is in mad max its built into the game mechanics, you have 10ish thunderpoons and it takes 4ish to kill him so shoot every car on the screen
Nope, in the Gastown race the mechanics are different, your handling is not as good as in the rest of the game, anyway, if you stay right behind Stank they can't get ahead of you. Here's another trick, if you are getting out of control use the aim to slow the action.

The race is hard for people who accustomed to driving in an open wasteland without streets, walls and other obstacles :hmm:

You dont need tricks, the race is easy
Well, you know, we all wish we could be aces like you, but sadly, some of us are normal clutzes. And let's not play semantics, I'll call it a feature instead of a "Trick", my bad.
My first time through I went without any upgrades, Gastown as soon as possible, ignoring all else. Took about 30 tries to get it done but I sure get the most out of a game!

Don't forget to paint your car red, it will go faster.

Dale Earnhart said black is faster, but anyway, red is the only color in MM that is flame retardent, so go ahead, paint it red.

I actually hate that fact, it should've been some upgrade instead of color stat :/

Ok. You guys will not believe it but inverted Y axis help me. I tried 20 times and realized that turns were tough and I was running in the walls. Apparently the camera was turning the other way and I was accelerating into the walls. It helped me. Try it. Might help you too.

tried panther's config. Just awful. Car has NO handling and is all over the place. Will need to try something else.

We're probably accustomed to using ram bumpers and armor during the game. Without them the car is quite twitchy, it's this that seems like "different" handling during the Gastown race. You can take out Stank in 60 secs before completing one lap.
