where does the game take place (location)

I was wondering where the game takes place i know its somewhere at the sea in Australia.
But other then that could i find no more presision the only notable locations are:
. gas town a formar refinery
. a large airfield
. a large or semi large heaven

It would have to be southwestern Australia since the Great White is to the south, and stretches out endlessly to the south and the west according to the lore entry for the Big Nothing.

I don't have access to my computer right now so I can't check, but I remember that, at a certain location, the large highway in the Dead Barrens has a sign with the name of a city on it. I don't remember the name, but it might be a clue. The same sign is shown on one of the loading screens, btw.

you are correct about the ''east west'' but there is one thing i forgot there is a large red bridge that might give us a hint of where this takes place.
i have to go any minute so i cant check.

its obviously not the golden gate bridge that has only 2 towers this one has 4.
there is no bridge that is exactly like the one in mad max i've looked it up and there is nothing like it.
i'm starting to get the feeling that they there is abselutely no perticular location this takes place in.

There isn't. I'm starting to get the impression that the entire wasteland is a figment of Max's imagination...

In this screenshot you can see signs for "Memory Lane" and "Gallup." Memory Lane seems like a pretty clear metaphor. Gallup is a city in New Mexico and there is no Gallup in Australia. I took this screenshot facing east, btw. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1104351943

In this screenshot, you can see the exact same signs... except their positioning indicates right-handed traffic, and I'm facing WEST. I'm guessing this is just an oversight on the part of the developers. well from comments on the historic relics can you hear that max clearly has gone mad but i dont think its a figment of imagination.

i know that but what somepeople seem to think is that the game all takes place in his head what is rediculaus because how do you survaive a wasteland if you just run around interacting with things that are not there.
