Do you think Max might actually be in hell?
or some sort of purgatory seeking redemption? Literally, not figuratively as is already implied in the story.

I know I'm not the first person to think of this for sure. I haven't finished it yet so no spoilers please.

It kind of makes me rethink the mad max movies as well under those pretenses. Road Warrior was when he was alive, but after that, ♥♥♥♥ got crazy fast.

I suppose you can see it that way, or the franchise is indeed set in an post-apocalypse world.

makes more sense if it were hell in my opinion. Something like Dante's Inferno. After the first movie nothing really makes sense anymore.

well yeah it is in a post-apocalyptic world. Even if you follow Max's storyline after the first movie when his wife dies...I could make an argument for him being in hell. Or a Hellish, something.

also there is no timeline after the first movie...it seems like he's been in the apacalypse forever.

In a world that is basically dead, keeping track of time is the least of anyone's concern.

well a common theme in being stuck in hell is, loss of time.

my aplogies for over examining the universe of mad max, I truly do love it.

George Miller has said that Mad Max is not necessarily about a single man, but about the legend OF Mad Max, so there is no set timeline. So each story may not even be the same man, but someone who took up the name of Max, or a story that was simply included in the legend of Mad Max.

As for hell, no, not in a literal sense. Maybe figurative, as in we create our own hell.

That make's perfect sense D4eaming, I kind of knew that this max couldn't be the same max as in the original movie. And it wouldn't make sense that the max in the new movie would be the same max as the one in the original movie either. Max is a legend.

Yeah, Max is literally a legend. Which I kinda like because it means Miller doesn't have to keep flowcharts or timelines, he can just make amazing movies.

I'm looking at it like the original 3 were about a single man, and then that this upcoming trilogy (Fury Road, the next move called The Wasteland, and then whatever the third will be called) using Tom Hardy are another Max figure that got incorporated. It could be that when he says his name is Max, he actually says something else and that whoever is telling the story (the First History Man, maybe) changed his name and added him to the legend.
