[OOT] Issues with Keyboard and Mouse not Exclusive to Mad Max
Former Title: Control Issues during Car Combat (For Mad Max)

As it says in the title, I'm having issues during Car Combat and I find it extremely annoying.

Basically, whenever I hold right-click to aim the shotgun/harpoon or to just simply slow down time, Shift (boost) and Space (handbrake) locks up and doesn't respond at all. So say, I hold right-click to slow down time so that I can handbrake and adjust Opus as it drifts, then I turn and boost into an enemy car for maximum collision... and yet the boost didn't work. Because Shift wasn't responding.

I tried a few things such as restarting the game, restarting steam, restarting my machine and I have no clue how to resolve this.

Anyone experienced this and/or may have a solution?

UPDATE 1:
I should've stated that I've played the game long enough to have already sunk my teeth into car combat. And as such, these issues only happened recently rather than my previous sessions with the game. So, despite the theories of right-click locking out other keys or the keyboard having a key press limit, that may not be the case because I was able to play and pull off maneuvers precisely despite holding right-click to slow time down, adjust the Opus' direction and engage the boost.

While I appreciate the theories, it may appear they may not seem to be the case as I was able to pull these actions off with no issues previously. :l

UPDATE 2:
Yeah, I had the same thought in it being a USB issue buut I do recall not unplugging my mouse from between the last Mad Max session to the recent one. Even so, I replugged the mouse just in case and so far, no different. I'll try other methods that revolve around this theory. Also, I'm using a laptop keyboard, so definitely unpluggable. And as a note, the keyboard haven't given me problems anywhere else except for Mad Max.

UPDATE 3:
Hey guys, so an update:

- It doesn't seem to be a USB issue.
- It doesn't seem to be my mouse since I used a different mouse.
- It's not exclusive to Mad Max only.

I've just experienced this on Payday 2 - Shift, Space, C (crouch) and V (melee) locks up. My guess would be X-Mouse Button Layout. Otherwise, something could be REALLY wrong here...

Update: It's not X-Mouse.

UPDATE 4:

If that's the case, I don't seem to be getting the beep warnings.

Alright, so it's a global thing on this machine. Which is odd. Before this happened, I played Payday 2 and Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Now, Payday 2, it worked normally. Then I got to RER2. Everything seems fine and dandy. Then I got to Mad Max and this started to happen and it now affected PD2.

Still trying to figure things out. Sorry if this is kinda off-topic as this is no longer related to Mad Max, I believe.

Update:

I'm beginning to feel desperate here guys. At this point, any visit to the manufacturer's service center is the last resort. The last thing I want is the guys there to think a full system format is a good idea...

Alright, I did some tests in Wick's shooting range in PD2.

Here are some specifics.

The keys that are confirmed to get locked are:

- L-Shift
- X
- C
- V
- Space
(From further tests)
- M
- Comma (,)
- Fullstop (.)
- Slash (/)

Most cases of this happening was when I hold the right-click to aim my rifle (PD2) and then hold the trigger, left-click, to go full-auto. Sometimes the affected keys work but then there are times they lock up and there's no way to unlock them except by random occassions. And then I did further tests by sprinting and testing the affected keys in the safehouse. They occassionally lock up and then work again.

Seriously have no clue what this is and google isn't helping.

UPDATE 5:

- The issue occurs while running a game. Occurred with Payday 2 and Mad Max.
- Attempting to replicate the issue on the desktop yielded no results.
- Alt+Tabbing out of the game doesn't allow usage of the affected keys.
- Closing the game doesn't release affected keys from the lock while on the desktop and the only way I was able to work around this is by getting in a game, and try to unlock it by doing random crap with holding both mouse buttons, WASDing and pressing the affected keys.
- System Restore failed twice.
- The issue still occurs even with a different mouse.
- Unplugging the mouse USB doesn't release the affected keys.
- Even while the keys are locked, plugging in a USB keyboard still allows affected keys to be used even though the keys on the laptop keyboard doesn't work.
- Restarting the laptop doesn't fix the issue. It may just get the keys to work again...
- Recent games played: Mad Max, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, XCOM 2 and Payday 2.
- The issue seem to first occur when I had my most recent session with Mad Max. This happened after I played around in Resident Evil: Revelations 2 with no issues. Before RER2, I played Payday 2 and without a doubt, my frenetic play through the game would've triggered the issue but it didn't. I somehow suspect RER2 on this.
- Sending the laptop to be serviced is a last resort for me. Hoping they'll just fix the keyboard issue and not just format every damn thing off the laptop.

I'm fully aware that this discussion thread is no longer related to Mad Max and for that, I apologize. If anyone has any ideas and suggestions on what to do about this, I would be very grateful. And I'm grateful to the guys who dropped by to lend me a piece of their mind on the matter.

I use a controller so am not sure of all the keys, however there is nothing designed to "slow time" as such. What your describing is the "Aim" function. When shooting any of your weapons you can either use "quickfire" or hold the Aim key, in my case its left bumper.

Yes it appears to slow things down for a bit but its not meant to be used the way you are using it, unless i am missing something.

While it's not designed to slow down time, it's just a side effect of the aiming function while in the Opus but I use it otherwise as it is useful to make minute changes in the midst of choatic chases.

Maybe the right click for aim, cancels out any other key like Shift or Spacebar, you only get four boosts maximum and could be using them to catch up with the pack? The boosts recharge but take time to do so. As for the Handbrake I'm clueless? It could be related to the cancelling out of the right mouse button of the boost/Handbrake keys. Just my thoughts on this issue.

By rule, Keyboards can at most handle three key presses at a time in the buffer. The "Arrow" keys are in fact each counted as TWO presses thus only ONE or two of those at a time can be held. Sorry to say but unless you're on a gaming keyboard specifically designed around that limitation or a controller, This is going to happen.

This is not a rule and it has got nothing to do with any buffer, it's due to how a particular keyboard is wired. Not having every key seperate reduces production costs.

It should not be an issue here anyway, as this happens when a mouse button is held. Don't really know what could cause this though. Some kind of usb issue maybe ? Did you change the way m+kb are plugged in?

Windows doesn't allow 5 keys pressed at the same time. This will give you a lockout, you usually get a beep warning before it does this.

There are some weird functions regarding especially the shift, ctrl and alt keys regarding how long thet are held. Check the keyboard tab in Control Panel for settings.
BE02-Raziel Jul 8, 2017 @ 6:58pm
If you're referring to sticky keys, those are already disabled. And following your suggestion, I did take a look at the keyboard settings in the control panel (specifically, finding related functions by searching 'keyboard' in the search bar) and there's no other settings that could be causing this.
