My car is weak... even with the max armor upgrade.

So I grinded around gutgashes turf because I was tired of ending up with my car destroyed and having to roll around as the enemy vehicles try to ram me, while chum takes his sweet old time repairing my car just so I can enter it again to have to get blown up once again. So I unlocked the final armor upgrade, and still I got destroyed after one or two rams from the enemy vehicles. So I thought, since they're grinding away at me, why don't I get the last rim upgrade so I can grind away at them? So I grinded some more for the rim upgrade until I finally got it. Well... that still didn't change much, because all the high level enemys also have spiked rims and they manage to grind me to bits before I can grind them to bits.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss.

I am doing this
- shoot tires with shotgun - or drive or petrol canister
- upgrade harpoon very much, pull off tires
- get thunder poon for blowing up cars

This is save me very much. Very little am i getting car hurt. I am not use much armor, Is make for too heavy and not goods controling.

Well, without knowing you full setup, this is what I can advise. First try and avoid them or shoot em with thunderpoon. Or shoot a tyre so they get out of vehicle so you can fight on foot,

Also driving to large rocks and getting out of the car and jumping onto the rocks where they can't drive will make them leave their cars so you can fight on foot. This is also a good way to "collect" vehicles without needing to damage them.

Aside from that, there are a couple of hood ornaments that help a little with defense, like "Plug Halo" and "Mask of the Pious".

If chum is taking a while to repair the car I assume you have not upgraded his repair speed. I would highly recommend doin that ASAP.

When in car combat do you best to avoid and shoot them with whatever weapons you have. If you run out of ammo do what I suggested above to fight the on foot rather than in the car.

Every car has a weakness. most of the heavy armour cars with spike wheels have an exposed gas tank on the back so they can be one shotted with shotgun.

I've tried using the harpoon, but it won't let me grab anything with it. Even though it's fully upgraded. I also have the final thunderpoon upgrade, but I never have ammo for it, and when I do it doesn't do that much damage anyways. The shotgun also isn't too useful, because I have to waste ammo shooting the tire armor off, then it takes about two shot to get the tire itself off, and all of the enemys i'm against at the moment, never have exposed fuel tanks. I also have the side burners, but they eat up too much gas so I avoid using them. They don't do all that much damage anyways.

Also, when do I get the repair upgrade? I'm about to do the first race, and i'm tired of chum writing his entire biography which I can view in the pause menu every time my car blows up.

You say you have the thunderpoon fully upgraded?, so you have been to "Deep Friah's" temple? If so then when inside his Temple there will be a mission icon on Chum, that is his missing to aquire the repair speed upgrade.

As for the Harpoon, even fully upgraded it can only pull off UNarmoured tyres etc so if the cars are armoured the harpoon wont do anything unless you shoot off the armour first.

Why do you never have ammo for the thunderpoon? You should get your ammo replenished at strongholds IF you have completed the project and built the amory, also when looting scrap mlocations or taking over camps there are usually ammo caches that can give you thunderpoon ammo as well.

With the shotgun, the most powerful is the 4 barrell, with that it only takes 1 shot to shoot out armoured tyres and fuel tanks, so try and level up to upgrade the shotty.

I know you haven't been playing long, but I can tell you it does get much easier with experience :)

I was mistaking I only have the third thunderpoon upgrade. I just assumed it was upgraded because i've been grinding for upgrades all day. :/

I've got the third shotgun upgrade, and I didn't try to use the shotgun against the armored cars at all... I didn't think it would do much. But i'll try to use it more now that I know, since I can get more shotgun ammo at jeets. I haven't visited the temple yet. But i'm going there right now because I want that repair upgrade...

Ok well as i said the 4 barrel is the most powerful, Also going to Deep Friah's will give you acces to begin Chum's mission for the repair speed ungrade as well as the Friahs 2 missions which will upgrade thunderpoon and burners. Lowering the threat in his territory upgrades thunderpoon 4 and 5, the last upgrade you get from the Friah's mission, as well the final burner upgrade.

Selecting any upgrade that you do not already have will tell you what you need to do in order to aquire them.

My favorite , without all the upgrades , basic car with no armor and just a basic ( 1st ) bumper , pull the drivers door off , then when harpoon is reloaded pull driver out , then keep bashing / ramming the enemy vehicle until it blows up or if I don't have it in my collection I drive it back . My 2nd option which is less favorable because it uses ammo is to shoot a tire off the rim , when there is armor on the tire , shoot the armor off then shoot the tire or pull it off with harpoon . I do not avoid the enemy , I go looking for them as they are resources . Those big fancy bumpers are a total waste of resources , they make no difference , I can destroy a vehicle with 1 or 2 hits with the 1st bumper , I have even done so " without " a bumper , the bumpers ....etc are just " Eye Candy " .

I beat the game recently, and im going to go and finish all the side missions and all that. But I unlocked a new shotgun and jacket, is the new shotgun better then the four barrel?

No, it's better only for combat on feet, because of faster reload, while it lacks armor-piercing effect for blasting cars. Also overall your max ammo would be lower by 2 shots.
That's really a pity they made iconic shotgun so weak. (and no modding fix possible)

Yeah, I was really disappointed to see that the interceptor was complete garbage. :/
