How often are storms?

They seem to be a pretty good way to make scrap (and to me are hella fun to drive in) but ive been playing madmax on one game for 13 hours and seen one storm... is it just random or do they occur every set period of time?

they are random....tho' the 'electrical' storms appear after the 'dust storms' in the progress of the game...there does not seem to be a trigger....sometimes when I play I'll get numerous ones in the course of an hour and then sometimes I don't get any.
staying outside of a stronghold should bring them on more frequently but this is unverified.

There are some that are activated by triggers. If you are near some place of safety like a stronghold, captured camp or place with an interior or underground you can wait for the storm to start, see the muthaloot icons appear then get inside quickly and the storm will stop immediately

well damn... i never had a dust storm...
im actually sitting under a rock right now... because theres 3 scrap boxes around me and it looks like ww3 outside with all the lightning
