But if you aim to do challenges and achievements to 100% then it might be useful to not clean territories too much until you unlock V8 engine and all upgrades. If you don't care for them - then it doesn't matter too much.
When i played the game i cleared every territory completely before moving to the next one, and often i found out locations that i can't access due to them belonging to storyline, and also i've spent most of the game only having V6 engine and basic repair speed. It might be useful for a challenge(not the game one, i mean added difficulty), because IMHO game is too casually easy in the way it's designed, but otherwise i don't recommend this route. I had to do some late challenges using the guide and blowing up respawning stationary cars over and over again because there were hard to find any in the wild - sounds not much fun, eh?
If i replay the game - i would aim to finish storyline as soon as possible to enjoy pwning enemies in a powerful car just for fun.
I hope you see my point.
P.S.: if you don't blow up the main convoy truck - then entire convoy would later respawn. So if you want to prolong the fun - you might want to spare truck's life. But you also might want to get a couple of hood ornaments just for decoration purposes and for some added stats(they don't add much, many of them add the same stat, so it's not a game-changer, and game is too easy anyway).
I don't plan to use it, but for everyone else as a workaround for absence of those buttons it might do.
You might also want to have another savegame for this http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=825817821

That worked only if i finished the story and started new game in same session. That's a glitch, so hard to say why, and even your mileage may vary indeed. All i'm saying is that save might not work for this purpose, just so people know.
