So far I haven't found anything that this game offers to the genre. It's just a Mario/Sonic knockoff. The closest to this I can think of is Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, which is way better than this.

Give Ducktales Remastered a try, it's been on sale a few times so it's best to add it to your wishlist as the price is bound to drop again. Really good game though. I'd also include Sonic CD, it's not just the best Sonic game but probably the best platformer you can buy on Steam in terms of level design and gameplay. You also can't go wrong with Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, I prefer Legends from the two but they're both excellent modern platformers

For all I love Duke nukem with my heart (as someone suggested it) it has nothing to do with the platform genre.
Meanwhile, Zool, a glorious masterpiece for Amiga, basically a brother to this game with a different setting, has been made available on steam. Absolutely go for that
