And frankly, this boss is the only reason harnabank exists. Why else would you need to dump your inventory at any point?
As a note: I beat the bastard with only a 1 in healing magic, It's just a measure of how many green essences you carry. (Hint: It takes more than 80 which I learned the hard way)
As for builds, the early game really discourages specialization. You really should be putting early points into what is the popular weakness for the zone. Typically a unique can be found that the boss is weak to, if it isn't a particular type of magic For example Slicering the unique polearm is GREAT for hitting neuron in the face . Specialization really isn't a good idea until later in the game.
In fact, Neuron is the only boss that offered any real challenge. The rest of them are pushovers. If you aren't doing the challenges associated with them (which, obviously, are meant to be challenging), you shouldn't have any trouble killing them.
1º attempt: die in my own spell
2º attempt: teleport
3º attempt: i dropped essence, potions and halo in the bank, and kill it, nothing more nothing less, i dint watch any guide and nothing, its just natural the way to kill it
So I looked up some stuff and found people talking about dropping potions. I couldn't understand why.
So then I fought him. Then he caused me to empty out all my potions. So I was like, okay, never mind, I'm going to drop all my potions before I start the fight.
Then he caused me to teleport away. So I was like, okay, I'll also drop all my teleportation items.
Keep in mind -- DON'T get a heals after you get teleported out like this, or if you teleported out because Neuron wasted all your potions and then you were near dying. If you do you get autosaved.
Beyond that, all I really needed was enough green magic essence and both healing and regeneration spells. And some sort of reasonable melee weapon.
Also I never figured out what Suicidal Thoughts meant.
You can get your stuff back if you lure a thief, kill it, then pick up the Strange Scroll that it sometimes drops. Those teleport you back to the thieves' lair...which includes a stash of all the stuff that they picked up from you.
up until this point i thought the ropes were asthetic and the book of wisdom quest needed some sort of double jump.
I agree with Original Poster (OP); Neuron is completely unfair...
And anyone defending the fight as fair, has absolutely no leg to stand on, if they researched the fight before hand. Learning the fight strictly by trial and error, attempt after attempt, is more punishing than anything I have played before. If you did the same and still think the fight is fair, well you are a better man than I.
I haven't read every post in this topic, but I still want to add my two cents, having just completed this boss fight without any help. Strictly by playing and losing time and time again.
It took me more than 5 failed attempts. Each time learning some new phuckin' mechanic: Potion dump, Teleport out, Cast spells on self, Swapping left/right controls (confusion), and ultimately just dying before I could kill him.
Finally I was smart enuf to farm Satyr Intestines, craft REGEN potions and individually lay them across the floor of the fight room. Plus I leveled up the healing skill so I could use the weak-but-better-than-nothing REGEN spell, to use once I couldn't pick up the potions without dumping them immediately. Finally I used up my collected "Melee Mastery" scrolls. These steps finally made the fight end in my favor. BUT AT WHAT COST? The learning curve, without hints or tutorial videos, is just way to steep to be fair.
I am off to the Catacombs now, and If the next boss-fight is like Neuron's, I am sure to rage quit.
Without any warning or NPC to hint at the fight mechanics Neuron is just NOT fun.
The gimmick of the fight is sure to cost any new player at least 3 runs, more likely double that if they aren't observant enough to understand the effects ongoing in the fight.
I was really disappointed when I was teleported from the boss the first time and the only thing I learned at that point was that no matter how much I prepared without reading a guide I would never have been able to beat that boss in one go.
Dont know if im even going to bother with a second play through ....
