Room with 3 Arcane Mages
I'm stuck. In the room with 3 arcane mages stacked upright, how did you beat it?

Put them to sleep and wait for their shields to wear off, then hit them with whatever you've got.

Hmm, I thought that was it. Will try again, thanks.

Yep, sleep is the key.

I sat under them with the skull pet and just let him kill them.

The spell wears off in 30s, I used de 1~1.5s window that they use to cast the barrier to hit with arrows. That's because I didn't spend any points on magic, only healing and alteration, so I had to take them down with arrows one by one XD

Sleep is level one, you don't need to spend point on it, just read book from pure spirit and have dust to cast it. I didn't spend any point on magic.

But if you have Alteration level 15 spell polymorph, you can transform them in to chickens.

I used the floating skull head companion. It was game over for anything out of reach that it's attack are valid for.

It seems the advice in this thread is now severely outdated, or doesn't apply to Hard+:

Sleep doesn't affect the undead.

The floating skull pet doesn't target any undead enemies, including the arcane mages.

The cast time of the arcane mages seems to be about 0.5 seconds, no time to cast any spell, much less drink a potion or read a scroll.

If you try to read a scroll of arcane protection, its effect expires before the unskippable cutscene ends.

Taking the shots head-on is not an option on Hard+, as you are shredded instantly.

Dodging is not possible because the mages aim when the bolts start flying, not when they start casting the spell, so it's impossible to dodge at that range.

I had been stuck on that room for hours. Ended up using a scroll of phase door to bypass that cutscene / encounter entirely.

nice try ..
those mages are not undead thus Sleep puts them to rest and Skull does target and attack them
also phase door won't let's you skip this room

I just realized this thread is about a different room, sorry (had several tabs open). My post was about the room at the very bottom and right of the catacombs.

Another way of doing this is using "Arcane Control" spell, just command skeleton to kill them, that's it. Level 1 necromancy is fine.

I'm prety shour that the answer is 5 years late but you could skill Bow to i think Lv 6 and use the spirit arow.
combined with the bow that shotes 2 arows at once or if whait til LV 12 and use triple shot.
with that combination you can clear the whole line with one shot.
